Verdict
This is a strong field but slight preference is for WESTERN STARS who has turned a major corner with a new yard since his defeat on heavy going in August. Two of his recent good runs were on soft. Mustazeed (also declared at Doncaster) caught the eye in a major way with the ground he made up over C&D on heavy (with Toshizou only just ahead) last month and would have been given the vote but for an apparent reluctance from the stalls which led to him losing that ground in the first place. Second choice is therefore City Of York, who won well over 1m here on heavy last time, but First Officer and Ectocross also present serious claims.[Richard Austen]
