Form & Verdict
Front-runner who bagged Grade 2 honours over C&D (good to soft) and at the Cheltenham Festival (2m1f, soft) last season; notched a personal best when winning Wetherby Listed race (2m, soft) on reappearance and ran creditably when third of four in Grade 1 Fighting Fifth here (2m, heavy) four weeks ago; down in grade and back up in distance today; looks the one to beat.

Below her best this season but has been running over fences and chasing doesn't appear to suit; won two Grade 2 mares' novice hurdles in early 2023 (2m4f/2m1f, good to soft/soft) and second in a mares' Grade 2 last January (3m, good); could bounce back with big run now reverting to hurdles.

Form & Verdict
Three wins during first season over hurdles, the most notable in Grade 2 mares' handicap at Newbury (2m4f, soft) in March; unplaced all three outings since and has ground to make up with Nurse Susan judged on their runs at Cheltenham three weeks ago; needs to up her game.

Just one win from her 11 chase starts and inconsistent this season but she ran okay in the face of a tough task when third of five in Listed race at Newbury (2m7f, good to soft) three weeks ago; capable of having a big say now back in a handicap.

Record of only 1-10 over fences and rather exposed; distant second on penultimate start and never landed a blow in competitive handicap at Cheltenham latest; however, best form suggests she can achieve a top-three finish in this field.

Four-time hurdle winner and prevailed narrowly in a 2m4f mares' handicap chase at Kempton in November (good); hasn't really threatened to go in again since then and cheekpieces are added to the tongue-tie tried last time.

Form & Verdict
0-6 as a chaser last term but has done better since returned to hurdling, winning at Wincanton (2m5f, good to soft; handles heavy) in November; stiff task from out of the handicap when splitting Nurse Susan and Ilovethenightlife at Cheltenham last time; this is another stern assignment.

Ran well on first four starts last season, latterly over an extended 2m7f, and she was back to that peak form when winning in clearcut style at Sandown (2m4f, heavy) six weeks ago under claimer Chad Bament; respected even though she's up 5lb and may well need a career best.

Lightly raced 7yo; good fourth in the Grade 2 Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the 2022 Cheltenham Festival (2m1f, soft); matched that form on second run back from a layoff when winning handicap there (2m4f, soft) three weeks ago, leading late on; still has potential; commands major respect.

Useful mare whose record of 6-12 over hurdles includes two handicap wins over C&D and Listed honours at Sandown; heavy ground possibly contributed to a form-dip last time; faded into midfield in this race last year but was ridden more prominently than usual; on a stiffer mark this time.

Lightly raced and thriving, better than ever at the age of nine; took hurdles record to 6-11 when staying on strongly to win Listed event at Sandown (2m4f, good; handles soft) early last month; has a 4lb penalty for that but she's very well entered up at the Cheltenham festival next month and commands plenty of respect here.

Form & Verdict
Won a heavy-ground bumper in December 2022 when trained by Kim Bailey; well-held fifth of seven in maiden at Uttoxeter (100-30) on hurdling debut; up steeply in grade and would be a surprise winner.

The four-timer came up short when a close second to Pounding Poet over 2m7f at Uttoxeter (good) but that was no backward step; a 2lb nudge does her no favours but this C&D winner is shortlisted.

Completed a hat-trick early last season and better than ever on her latest two starts for wins at Huntingdon (3m1f, good) and Warwick (3m2f, good); up 6lb into a much more competitive race and wears first-time cheekpieces after a fairly workmanlike display from the front last time.

Verdict

Nurse Susan holds Good Look Charm and Ilovethenightlife judged on their running at Cheltenham last month, and with improvement possible Dan Skelton’s lightly raced sort can emerge best of those three once more. However, the likeable front-runner YOU WEAR IT WELL sets a high standard on form, has conditions in her favour and looks the one to beat.[Richard O’Brien]
