Drew 8l clear in Cesarewitch trial at Newmarket in September (2m2f, good); couldn't follow up in the real thing when sixth of 19; up 10lb compared to his last win and he has never won after an absence before. |

Useful jumper; eighth at 33-1 in last year's Cesarewitch, when never dangerous on soft going and it looks like that surface was not ideal, as he runs far more often on good ground and drew 8l clear over C&D in the Cesarewitch Trial three weeks ago; well handicapped with just a 4lb penalty, for trainer who won this with a 7yo in 2022. |

Dual-purpose gelding who finished eighth in last October's Cesarewitch (soft) when 5lb higher, since when his most competitive runs have come over hurdles; an assured stayer on this return to Flat action and likes this good ground. |

Beaten under 6l when fifth (just behind Mattie Ross) on handicap debut at Uttoxeter (2m7f, good to soft) in May and is 5lb lower here but needs to bounce back from a poor performance over 2m4f last month. |

Mark looked about right ahead of last month's Uttoxeter handicap debut (good to soft), from which the most immediate conclusion to draw was that 2m7f is too far at this stage; remains of interest dropped 1lb and 3f. |

In the last 13 months he's won Cheltenham's NH Chase (3m6f), the Irish National (3m5f), a hurdle race, Welsh National (near 3m7f; 12lb higher today) and a Newbury Grade 2; no way can he be ruled out, particularly as he finished well on top in those four chases, but there have also been two major blips this season; latest was in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, for which he was just 6-1 and made most but went to nothing turning for home (writing on the wall four out); however, he's bounced back before, the likely tempo of this race can suit him better and the trip looks like doing so as well. |

Prominent-racer who won the NH Chase (Handicap) at this meeting 12 months ago (3m6f, good to soft) and bounced back from November's Betfair Chase flop to win the Welsh National (3m6f, good to soft) and also the Grade 2 Denman Chase (2m7f, heavy); this highly progressive 9yo is now 6-8 over fences and should prove well suited to the demands of today's race, all the more so if there's rain and stamina is at a premium; firmly in calculations. |

Superbly progressive novice last term, winning Cheltenham's NH Chase (3m6f, good to soft) and the Irish National (3m5f, soft to heavy); hurdles win here in November before something seemed amiss in a Grade 1 at Haydock 16 days later, but he bounced back from that with a sparkling display to dominate the Welsh National (3m6f) six weeks ago; that was another serious advance and he looks like earning his place in top Graded races after this. |

Verdict
Reverend Hubert sets the standard for sure but a slog in the mud might not be absolutely ideal and HAITI COULEURS should give the Irish horse something to think about. He twice shaped well on testing ground before probably not giving his running in a Grade 2 last time.[Alistair Jones]
