Form & Verdict
Sported headgear from the outset (also ridden by Rab Havlin all starts); gave Trueshan plenty to think about in the Doncaster Cup (2m2f, soft) last term in his first Group race; back near that peak form in Group 3 at Ascot (2m, good to soft) three weeks ago, duelling with the winner from 2f out but losing out to Caius Chorister as well late on; may have come on since that run and now tries different headgear; big player.

Third and fourth in the last two renewals of this race and his 19l defeat last year was the only time in his career that he's finished out of the top three; being ridden closer to the pace that day seemingly backfired, as he's usually smuggled into each-way contention in the closing stages; beat Caballo De Mar (who gave 2lb) in one tight finish this year and not quite able to reel in Dubai Future in another; probably as good as ever but winning the Gold Cup may again prove a bit beyond him.

Won this in 2024 and has added three more Group-race wins, the latest on reappearance in this month's Sagaro Stakes at Ascot (2m, good to firm) where he was clear with subsequent Group 1 winner Caballo De Mar; leading claims despite 5lb penalty.

Headgear and Rab Havlin all starts; not straightforward but he nearly always gives his running, including at this track; he did not have the top stayers to worry about last September when winning his second Doncaster Cup and the same seems to apply today, so he's a leading player.

Form & Verdict
Big majority of her career has been in handicaps, with plenty of success, but she ended last season with a Group 3 win from the front at Saint-Cloud (1m6f, very soft) and hit another new high three weeks ago when coming from last to second in Group 3 at Ascot (good to soft) on first attempt at 2m; got the better of Sweet William close home last time (Trueshan further behind) and the pair of them again look leading contenders.

Ended 2023 with French 1m6f Group 3 win from the front (very soft); raised her game again this season upped to 2m (held up) in Group 3s on first two outings, beaten a head by Sweet William on second occasion (soft); however, she's not lived up to those performances, usually racing too freely.

Ended last term with a 1m6f French Group 3 win from the front and raised her game again this season when upped to 2m (held up) in Group 3s on first two outings; raced far too freely in the 2m4f Ascot Gold Cup and disappointed when she again raced freely and reverted to front-running at Goodwood four weeks ago; the one to beat judged on initial form this term and James Doyle riding her for the first time is interesting.

Won at this meeting in 2022; ended last term with a 1m6f French Group 3 win from the front and better form again this season when upped to 2m and beaten a head in Group 3s at Ascot and Sandown; raced far too freely in the 2m4f Ascot Gold Cup on latest outing but looks a major player today.

Form & Verdict
Still tricky to settle; added to his haul of big-race wins with a Doncaster Cup and Prix du Cadran last September; disappointing next time, followed by wind surgery, which seemed to turn him round after second start last term but he was not at the top of his game behind Caius Chorister and Sweet William on Ascot reappearance three weeks ago; the 7lb penalty again makes his task additionally hard; usually kept to ground softer than good.

Needs good ground or softer; grand stayer who has been first, third and fourth on his three appearances in the Goodwood Cup; not disgraced on return in France this May and he got seriously involved every time last season after his first run, but he's a 9yo now and it would be rolling back the years to see him top of the pile today.

Tricky to settle; beaten a neck by Coltrane in this race in 2022 but he went one better against Sweet William in it in 2023; as in those races, he's usually been kept to ground softer than good, but he was allowed to take his chance on good going on last two starts, hammering his rivals in a Listed race at Sandown but finishing just over 4l adrift of Sweet William and Gregory in the Goodwood Cup last time; a staying star of previous campaigns but on this season's evidence he needs a bit extra.

0-11, taking second in four of her last six starts and she was also close up when third in handicap at Goodwood on latest; stays 2m and no ground worries; however, looks well out of her depth today; hooded first time.

May still have more to offer for Dan Skelton but is by no means certain to follow up a fortuitous win at Fakenham (2m4f) where she was gifted the race when the clear leader exited; now 1lb higher in a stronger event.

Very useful on the Flat in 2024 and made winning handicap hurdle debut for Lucy Wadham at Market Rasen (2m4f, good to soft) last February before finishing second in a Listed race; safely held on seasonal/stable debut at Kempton just after Christmas but will probably come good for Dan Skelton soon.

Hurdles career seems to have gone off the rails but two big runs on Flat last spring, notably with last-gasp win in the 2m2f Chester Cup (soft); not totally disgraced on Flat return five weeks ago but he needs a career best in this Group race; recent rain rather than drying conditions is a boost.

Has been a money-spinner for connections over the years but recent efforts (Flat and jumps) have been subdued and he faded into a well-held fourth at Sandown (28-1) in December; well handicapped on old form but needs first-time cheekpieces to have a positive effect.

Easily best known for his exploits on soft/heavy ground, on the Flat winning 2022 November Handicap and 2023 Chester Cup; the latter was off same mark as today but he did not fire on all cylinders last March-July and he's run only once on AW, when finishing last over C&D in 2023; enough doubts.

Form & Verdict
Seems to act on good to firm as well as soft; 3yo wins came in a handicap and Listed race and he's not quite cracked it at Group level, including when the run may have been needed back at 1m4f on reappearance five weeks ago; however, peak form still gives him a chance and he could prove well suited by this first crack at 2m.
