His six wins include two over C&D; no match for No More Bolero when second here (2m1f, good to firm) in April, although he is 5lb better off with that rival; fourth of 12 at Ascot (2m, good) four weeks ago and holds place claims. |

Scored for the sixth time when making all at Newbury (13.5f, good to firm) off 1lb lower in July and gave it a fair go from the front when second at Bath (2m1f, good to firm; Educator third) three weeks ago; same mark and should make his presence felt. |

Gained his fourth success when making all at Bath (1m6f, good to firm) last month and ran another respectable race when a 2l fourth of seven over this C&D 25 days ago; contender. |

Back in excellent form after 12 months off and landed 1m6f handicap at Bath nine days ago; up 3lb but this gutsy front-runner is not taken lightly. |

Well held in three novice events (1m-1m3f; good to soft/AW) and he never got involved from off the pace in a race run at a modest gallop on his handicap debut at Newbury (1m2f, good) 35 days ago; steps up in trip and he may yet do better. |

Well held at 33-1, 18-1 and 80-1 in his three novice races (1m1f, 1m3f and 1m; last two on AW) but he was a 150,000gns yearling and is well related; needs a market check on this handicap debut. |

Verdict
Having been first past the post when stepped up to 1m4f at Goodwood last time, LA PEREGRINA has since been punished by the stewards and the handicapper, but his 3lb rise from the latter may not turn out to be too harsh. As a 3yo who is likely to stay this trip, he looks open to further progress. Fellow 3yo Kakirra, who’s on a four-timer, is feared most ahead of the solid but more exposed older horses Lusaka (who won this race last year) and Two Plus Two.[Richard Austen]
