Form & Verdict
C&D winner who has had a fantastic run this year, winning his last four races on good to firm ground, over 6f and 5f; at the age of nine he seems to be closing in on his best-ever form and he has won off a slightly higher mark than today's in the past; Oisin Murphy up for the first time; much respected.

Has raced mostly at around 5f but there was no doubting that this C&D suited him well when he won by a wide margin (good to firm) in June; ran with great credit when eighth of 27 in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood recently, after having to be switched, and looks a likely contender back here.

Useful form at a less competitive level in 2025, following 6f wins last June with one in a valuable York race (extended 5f, good to firm) in August; kept on well after being slightly checked in his run at Windsor in May but he has more to prove over this stiff 6f on course debut.

Lost his way as a 3yo but he had smart 6f handicap form last May and a close second to Diligently over C&D (good to firm) in June signalled a return to better days; a Thirsk win at 6f and a close third over 5f at Ascot have followed and he can be in the thick of it.

Verdict

A race that’s as warm as the weather, with so many of them having put their best foot forward on this track. Another Abbot achieved his best result so far when beating Sudden Flight here last time and both are high on the list but KING OF LIGHT looked a different horse when turning a qualifier into a romp in June and he’s since run with great credit in the Stewards’ Cup. Amazingly, the 9yo Badri seems to be nearing his best-ever form and he can also be involved but Diligently may be the main danger to King Of Light. Indian Run and Trefor are others to consider while Purest Time is interesting at a price.[Emily Weber]
