Form & Verdict
All four wins have been on Newcastle AW but he's still lightly raced on turf; finished in mid-division in the Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot (7f) last time but he was runner-up in a Class 3 there (1m, good to firm) on his penultimate run; has claims if he can recapture that form and he's in the mix back up in trip.

Has gained all wins on Newcastle AW, the most recent on finals day last year; however, ran well at Ascot (1m, good to firm) returned to turf last time, taking form figures in this sphere to 3232; seems effective over 7f and may remain competitive.

Form & Verdict
Has a patchy profile but he got back near best with a strong-finishing success in a Class 2 handicap at Ascot (1m, good to firm) last month; that was in a bunch finish but he's only 2lb higher and is a big player if he can repeat that form.

8yo who hasn't been at the top of his game this season (twice here); however, he took a step back in the right direction when sixth of 13 to Asmen Warrior at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) last time and he may be able to build on it back at a track where he had a good record last season.

Form & Verdict
Started his career with two wins including a Listed event in October 2024; has had some major struggles since but he's shown signs of a revival for his current yard and was beaten less than 2l at Thirsk (1m, good) last time; rallied well in that race and has claims if this sets up for his closing style.

Commenced career with two wins, including Listed; 0-6 and patchy form-wise since but proved resurgent in York handicap (1m; debut for new stable) most recently and is interesting off current mark assuming he builds on that effort.

Respectable seventh in the Dante here in May 2025 and he's one to watch in the betting back down in trip starting out for another new yard (remains in same ownership); however, he's very much struggled since the Dante and arrives with plenty to prove.

Acts on fast and soft ground; hasn't been at the top of his game this season but he ran well when fifth at Chester (7.6f) in May and is now 2lb lower than for his Sandown win last summer; should be fine on this return to 1m and he's not ruled out back from a break.

Never involved back on turf at Newmarket last month; however, he returned with two respectable efforts on AW prior to that and the fact he's dipped to 1lb below the mark he defied at Sandown (7f, soft) last summer and was runner-up at this meeting last year make him a dangerous one to discount.

C&D winner who scored on the other course here (1m, good) in May; hasn't hit the same level in four subsequent runs but he was not beaten far at Thirsk last time and he ties in with Tuscan Hills on that form; usually comes from off the pace and has possibilities if he gets the breaks.

Well beaten at Epsom on Oaks day and he still had work to do when his path was blocked late on over this C&D three weeks ago; however, before those he won in good style on the other Newmarket course (1m, good) and he won this race in 2024 (good to soft); capable of having a say.

Form & Verdict
His wins have come on good or heavy ground but he's effective on good to firm; has been and up down since his win at Glorious Goodwood last summer but he scored at Nottingham (8.3f) in May and backed that up with a creditable fifth in a big field at Epsom the following month; returns after a short break but he could go well on this drop back in grade.

Acts on good to firm and heavy ground; won off 1lb higher at Goodwood (1m) last July but has mixed record since and was beaten 11l in the Spring Mile on his reappearance in March; this is a big drop back in grade but he's now 1-11 in handicaps and others are more convincing.

He has taken it up a notch this season, winning at Windsor (1m, good to firm; made most) in May and beating 21 others under a penalty at York (7f, good) eight days later; fine second to Colombier at Epsom next time and his latest fifth in valuable Curragh handicap (1m) was respectable; has to be of interest again.

Missed almost three years before returning this spring; well held in first runs for current yard but he rallied well to finish third of 15 at Thirsk (7f, good) two weeks ago; that was much more like it and he remains well handicapped on his old form including three wins over this trip; interesting contender.

Verdict

This looks wide open but it might be worth siding with CROUPIER, who was an eye-catching third in a big field at Thirsk two weeks ago and remains well treated on his old form including three wins over this trip. Hickory produced a strong late thrust when winning a Class 2 at Ascot last month and he’s feared most ahead of the unexposed Brocklesby Bill, who made it 2-5 when making all at Sandown last time. Storm Star has possibilities back up in trip and down in grade, while Principality and Tuscan Hills are also on the shortlist.[David Moon]
