The final day – day 5 of Glorious Goodwood features the Stewards’ Cup over six furlongs, one of the big Goodwood betting races of the week. This is one of the most valuable sprint handicaps of the season and many past winners have gone on to success in Group races. Lochsong (1992), Coastal Bluff (1996), Danetime (1997) and Borderlescott (2006) all won here before enjoying Group 1 glory.

There is also a consolation Stewards’ Cup called the Stewards’ Sprint for horses who did not make the cut for the feature race. The Lillie Langtry Stakes for fillies and mares over a mile and three-quarters provides the Group 2 action on the final day.

Stewards’ Cup

One of the most competitive races contested during the entirety of Glorious Goodwood is the Stewards’ Cup. This race was taken last year by the Michael Dods trained Commanche Falls, who just edged out Gulliver and Great Ambassador in a thrilling finish.

All three are entered for the race again this year, and are available at double-figure odds currently. That bodes well for their chances, with four of the last five winners returning at double-figure prices. If Commanche Falls can make it back-to-back wins, he’ll become the first horse since Skydiver (1967 + 1968) to win the race twice.

This is going to be the final Goodwood Cup for four-time winner Stradivarius. John & Thady Gosden’s star stayer has become a standing dish at Glorious Goodwood in recent years and broke the record of Double Trigger (1995, 1997, 1998) when registering his fourth consecutive Goodwood Cup success in 2020. Other multiple winners of this race include Persian Punch (2001, 2003), Yeats (2006, 2007) and Big Orange (2015, 2016). Punters will undoubtedly raise the roof if Stradivarius makes racing history with an unprecedented fifth success.

The supporting card features the Group 2 Vintage Stakes for two-year-olds, won in 2019 in spectacular style by subsequent champion juvenile Pinatubo. Past winners include Highland Reel (2014) and subsequent 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold (2015). The most recent winner was Ralph Beckett’s Angel Bleu, under a fine ride from Frankie Dettori.

The Vintage Stakes is followed by more Group 2 action in the seven-furlong Lennox Stakes, taken last year by Ralph Beckett’s Kinross.

The highlight on day one of Glorious Goodwood 2022 will be the return of Stradivarius, the undisputed King of Glorious Goodwood after four consecutive victories at this meeting (2017,2018,2019,2020). John & Thady Gosden’s missed the 2021 running of the race but will be one of the most popular winners of the week if he can land an unprecedented fifth win in his final race of his glittering career.

Goodwood Cup

The feature race on day one of the Glorious Goodwood festival is the Group 1 Goodwood Cup. The race will have one of the stories of the week as four-time winner Stradivarius aims to land an unprecedented fifth win in his final race of his career. Stradivarius is now the outright most successful horse in the race’s 208-year history, and should regular pilot Frankie Dettori manage to steer him to another victory on Tuesday, then he will become the outright most successful jockey in the history of the Goodwood Cup (6 wins). Expect fans to raise the roof as he bids for the perfect swansong to his incredible career!

The Group 1 Sussex Stakes is the feature race on day 2 of the Glorious Goodwood Festival, a race which carries prize money of £1 million. Notable past winners of this race include Kris (1979), Chief Singer (1984), Zilzal (1989), Giant’s Causeway (2000) and Rock Of Gibraltar (2002). Arguably the most famous winner of the Sussex Stakes was Frankel (2011, 2012), the only horse to achieve two victories in this race.

Last year’s renewal was won by Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy with Alcohol Free. That was a third Group 1 victory for the filly, and . she has since won the July Cup at Newmarket in July 2022. Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood also includes the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes for two-year-olds over five furlongs.

Sussex Stakes

Three-year-olds have a good record in the Sussex Stakes, having won nine of the last fourteen renewals, and look certain to be well represented this year. St James’s Palace Stakes winner Coroebus will likely be towards the head of the betting, as will Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Native Trail. However, they will have to bring their A game to beat one of the best horses in training currently – William Haggas’ Baaeed.

William Haggas is yet to taste victory in this race, but if he opts to run his star here he must fancy his chances! Baaeed has won all eight races in his career to date, including an impressive four Group 1’s. He will surely be plenty of punters ‘banker’ acca’s for Glorious Goodwood 2022.

The third day of the Goodwood Festival is traditionally known as Ladies’ Day and features the Nassau Stakes. The race was elevated to Group 1 status in 1999. The late Sir Henry Cecil trained Midday to a remarkable hat-trick of Nassau Stakes victories between 2009 and 2011. Other famous names on the roll of honour include Ouija Board (2006), The Fugue (2012) and Minding (2016).

Group race action on day 3 of the Glorious Goodwood Festival also includes the Group 2 Richmond Stakes for colts and geldings over six furlongs. That is followed by the Group 3 Gordon Stakes for three-year-olds over a mile and a half, a race dominated by trainer Sir Michael Stoute. He has won the race a record ten times, most recently with Crystal Ocean (2017).

Nassau Stakes

The Nassau Stakes is seen as the first real test between the three-year-old middle-distance fillies and their elders, yet it has been the classic generation that has come out best in recent years, with three-year-olds winning six of the last ten renewals of the Nassau. John & Thady Gosden’s Nashwa and Inspiral look like the strongest representatives from that age group in 2022.

Anyone looking for Glorious Goodwood horse racing tips will be well aware of team Gosden’s ability to pop up with a winner or two at the Glorious Goodwood Festival, and although their two are both towards the head of the betting, there are plenty of other stars in the mix. Notable names entered include Pretty Polly Stakes winner La Petite Coco and AP O’Brien’s Tuesday

Glorious Goodwood horse racing tips for day 4 will focus on the Group 2 King George Stakes over five furlongs. With no Battaash in the line-up this year, the race looks wide open. Likely market leaders include James Tate’s unbeaten Royal Aclaim and King’s Stand Stakes runner-up Twilight Calls both look set to play important roles in the race.

There is also Group 3 action in prospect courtesy of the Thoroughbred Stakes for three-year-olds over a mile, won last year by William Haggas’ stable star Baaeed. While the big handicap for Glorious Goodwood tips is the Golden Mile over the same distance.

King George Stakes

Last year’s renewal was won in convincing style by Suesa, running out a three length winner ahead of the likes of Dragon Symbol and Glass Slippers. This year the race looks wide open, but there are a couple of horses that are clear in the ante-post betting.

James Tate’s impressive Walls Stakes winner Royal Aclaim and King’s Stand runner-up Twilight Calls both appear to have excellent chances. But there are plenty of big-name challengers, including the likes of Raasel and Flotus. Last year’s winner Suesa could also line up again, but she has failed to win since her 2021 Glorious Goodwood win.

How to Bet on Glorious Goodwood

Glorious Goodwood is one of the most exciting betting weeks of the season for racing fans. The big festival meetings are the best time to take advantage of special bookmaker offers. Goodwood Special Bets include enhanced odds for big race favourites to a limited stake. If you decide to open new accounts you could be set up with a nice bank of Goodwood Free Bets.

Royal Ascot form is usually the best guide for your Goodwood Tips. The markets can be a good indicator for the Group races with strong favourites. The handicaps can be a lot harder to solve but once again Ascot often holds the key. Horses who were out of luck in races like the Royal Hunt Cup or Wokingham Handicap can often bounce back at Goodwood.

If you’re betting on the big Goodwood handicaps, check for enhanced place terms. Many of the leading bookmakers’ payout on fifth or even sixth place in races like the Stewards’ Cup and the Golden Mile. Goodwood Racecourse is one of the fastest tracks in the UK and the draw can be a factor to consider for your Goodwood bets. High numbers are at a disadvantage in races over seven furlongs or a mile unless they have early tactical speed to hold a position before the home turn.

Goodwood Live Streaming

ITV will provide free to air coverage on all five days. They will have Goodwood Tips from their panel of experts along with live interviews and updates on the latest Goodwood betting.

If you don’t have access to a television, you can still watch your Goodwood Bets through the live streaming offered by bookmakers. For a small minimum stake (usually 50 pence or £1) you will be able to watch any race live on your computer or mobile device. For more detailed information, check your bookmaker’s website.

Goodwood Racecourse Guide

Goodwood is one of Britain’s historic racecourses situated in the heart of the Sussex Downs. Horse racing has taken place in this location since 1801 when the Duke of Richmond arranged for a private race meeting to be held for local army officers.

As racing became hugely popular through the 19th century, Glorious Goodwood became a highlight of the summer season with various leading royal figures always attending.

King Edward VII was known to take advantage of some local Goodwood tips and was in attendance most years.

No racing took place during the first and second world wars but Goodwood surged in popularity in the second half of the 20th century, with a record crowd of 55,000 in attendance in 1953.

This year, the course will host around 100,000 spectators during the Qatar Goodwood Festival and most of them will be hoping to win some money as a result of some Goodwood racing tips.

There are now 19 meetings held every year at Goodwood between May and October and some big races take place on the Sussex Downs every year. The Goodwood Cup, Nassau Stakes and Stewards’ Cup take centre stage during the Glorious Goodwood Festival but outside of that, the racecourse hosts the Celebration Mile and a host of Sunday family events and evening racing throughout the summer.

Goodwood Racecourse Track

An idiosyncratic racecourse, Goodwood is as unconventional on the track as it is conventional off the track.

For those of you hoping to benefit from some Goodwood tips, it’s worth noting that this racecourse is unique. The straight six-furlong course, on which the Stewards’ Cup is run,

Is uphill for the first furlong and mostly downhill after, although the finish is also slightly uphill.

There is a right-handed loop towards the middle of the straight, on which there are various starts for longer distance races.

Races tend to be run over 1m2f on the Craven Course, 1m 4f on the Gratwicke Course and the 1m 6f Bentinck Course. Famously, races run over 2m5f are started by the finishing post with no stalls and horses race the wrong way up the straight before joining the loop midway up the straight.

There will be plenty of betting going on in the three Goodwood racecourse enclosures and with bookmakers taking bets and hoping to profit from some wayward Goodwood racing tips, there is no shortage of entertainment to be had.

The Premier enclosure is the Richmond Enclosure, which offers the best view of the Sussex Downs. With a host of champagne bars and restaurants, it is the place to be seen. It must be noted that men must wear jackets accompanied by a tie, cravat or polo-neck sweater. Boys aged 7-15 are encouraged to wear a collared shirt.

Ladies are encouraged to dress stylishly and jeans, trainers and shorts are not permitted in the Richmond Enclosure.

Things are slightly more relaxed in the Gordon enclosure, which is more of a hub for entertainment with live music, delicious food and entertainment. The dress code is less severe and the atmosphere is more relaxed.

The final enclosure you can choose is the Lennox enclosure. This one is the most relaxed and popular with families as it has a large children’s playground and plenty of picnic spots.
