Dubawi filly who has the same form figures as Hatour and, like that rival, is open to improvement in handicaps; her novice efforts (1m) have substance; possibilities if taking well to first-time headgear. |

Some promise on debut and she held her position for a long way at Newbury (1m, soft) next time when third to smart Haggas stablemates (winner holds multiple Group 1 entries; the second impressive since) in October; interesting to see what the market says on her return. |

Bids for a hat-trick after wins here (1m4f) and at Southwell (1m3f, Tapeta) in April; 3lb higher mark not the end of the world, but the drop back in trip does pose a question. |

Pleasing third of five when stepped up to 1m4f at Wolverhampton last month and did the business under those conditions next time, getting the better of the hot favourite; had over 2l to spare at the line and a 5lb rise could have been worse; tough to beat. |

8lb lower than when winning easily here (1m4f, good to firm) last July, but hasn't matched that form since and was a long last of four at Bath (11.7f, firm) six weeks ago; can be slowly away. |

No closer than sixth in his three qualifying runs but he was only beaten around 4l when joint-favourite in a Leicester novice (1m2f, good to firm) last month; should have more to offer now switched to handicaps and he's an interesting contender. |

Ran respectably when sixth of six, beaten just over 9l, in warm maiden over C&D (good to firm) last month on his second start; could take another step forward today and he has an each-way chance. |

Son of Lope De Vega who has shaped with promise on all his three runs, proving more settled (gelded over winter) on his recent return when third of ten in 1m maiden at Redcar; has more to offer now stepping into handicap company in a refitted hood; interesting. |

Gelded since last campaign in which he was fifth behind a high-class winner at Ascot (7f) and a close third with hood fitted at Newcastle (1m, AW); headgear now removed; brings potential to his second season. |

All three runs have been on Tapeta; shaped with some promise in novice events at Newcastle (1m) in November but he was tailed off at Wolverhampton the following month; still early days and now goes handicapping but he has something to prove after six months off. |

5/1 Queens Companion, 6/1 Magician Of Riga, 14/1 Raintown, 2/1 Astracornus, 10/1 Norman Invasion, 5/2 Windbreaker, 12/1 Turtle Reef
Verdict
David Menuisier’s ASTRACORNUS (nap) impressed when going in on his handicap debut at Nottingham and looks the way to go with that form having been franked, although William Haggas’ Sea The Stars colt Windbreaker also has better days ahead of him and rates a threat. Magician Of Riga and Raintown can fight it out for minor honours.[Peter Entwistle]
