Form & Verdict
Won the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp (1m2f, very soft) in October 2024; stepped in a hidden drainage hole and pulled up at Haydock this May when returning from a very long absence but looked as good as ever when third in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot (1m, good to firm) last month, staying on well having been denied a clear run; could play a leading role back up in trip.

4-5 in 2024, when her wins included a Group 3 over C&D (good to firm) in July and the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp (1m2f, very soft) in October; came back from a 594-day absence only to endure a miserable experience at Haydock last month, when putting her foot in a hole and swiftly pulled up; thankfully connections reported her to be fine after that and she commands the utmost respect on this second attempt at a relaunch.

She's won five of her six starts, the latest victory coming in the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp (1m2f, very soft) in October 2024; absent since and she needs to prove she retains her ability, but she probably won't need to be at her very best to come out on top in this line-up.

Form & Verdict
Beaten just a neck in this race in 2024 (good to firm) and heavy ground was against her when a below-par third 12 months ago; won the Group 2 Middleton Stakes at York (1m2f, good) this May for the second year running; well beaten in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and now 0-13 in Group 1 races, but she's still entitled to respect back against her own sex.

Secured back-to-back Group 2 Middleton wins at York (10.5f, good to firm/good) last month; went very close to making Group 1 breakthrough in the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp (1m2f, very soft) last October but beaten just over 4l by Ombudsman when third in this last year (good to firm) and it's likely that her limitations will again be exposed today.

Pulverised her seven rivals in this on her second outing of last season, scoring by a whopping 12l on good to firm; couldn't quite reproduce that high-class RPR at Group 1 level in five subsequent outings in 2025 but mostly ran well, including a close second in the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp (1m2f, soft); didn't have much to spare at the line when 1-3 for a 1m2f Nottingham Listed race on reappearance but cruised through most of that contest and will likely be a lot closer to her best this time; again the one to beat in this.

Form & Verdict
2-2 prior to keeping on well for third in 1m Listed race at York (good) in May and she improved for the step up to 1m2f to win the Group 3 Hoppings Stakes by a short head at Newcastle (AW) last month, coming clear with a classy Godolphin 5yo; others have stronger form but she's unexposed and well worth a crack at a Group 1; could give a good account.

Form & Verdict
Her 5-5 record includes French Group 1 wins on her last three starts, with this season's wins coming in the Poule d'Essai Des Pouliches at Longchamp (1m, heavy) and the Prix de Diane at Chantilly (10.5f, good to firm); it was a very tight finish last time but she's clearly a top performer and her trainer has won this with 3yos six times, including the last two runnings; leading claims.

St Mark's Basilica filly cost E1,700,000euros as a yearling; half-sister to eight winners, including Magic Wand (Ribblesdale and Australian Group 1), and Chicquita (Irish Oaks); made a pleasing debut when beating stablemate and favourite Minerva at the Curragh; an element of doubt is introduced by Minerva's eclipse behind Kensington Lane at Gowran.

St Mark's Basilica filly cost 1,700,000euros as a yearling; half-sister to eight winners inc Magic Wand (1m-1m4f inc Australian Group 1; RPR 117), Enemy (Group-placed 7f-1m6f inc 2yo/AW; 116) and Chicquita (1m4f Group 1 Irish Oaks; 114); dam French 1m1f 2yo/1m3f Listed winner (102); superbly-bred newcomer although Moore prefers Minerva.

Form & Verdict
Group 3 runner-up at the Curragh last August but unplaced on her four runs since and it's likely she'll assume a pacemaking role for stablemate Diamond Necklace, as was the case in the Prix de Diane last time.

Worth a second look given she's the sole Ballydoyle runner and it's possible she'll improve for the step up in trip on her second start of the season; however, she's been beaten in four Listed/Group races since winning a maiden at Leopardstown on her debut last June, and was 2l behind Legacy Link when fifth in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket last October.

Leopardstown maiden winner on debut; progressed to be placed in Chesham at Royal Ascot (beaten 2.25l into third) and in a Group 3 over C&D (beaten 2.25l into second); ran with credit when fifth in Fillies' Mile behind stablemate Precise 175 days ago; stable first string and should go well, although soft ground an unknown.

Verdict

Friendly Soul and See The Fire are strong representatives for the older contingent but the 3yo DIAMOND NECKLACE is taken to maintain her unbeaten record. She completed a French double in their Guineas and Oaks and Aidan O'Brien has enjoyed plenty of success with 3yos in this race. Friendly Soul should appreciate the return to 1m2f and is second choice ahead of the 3yo Botagoz, who is unexposed at the trip.[Ben Hutton]
