Form & Verdict
A typically progressive late developer from this yard who never ran at two; won four in a row last season before finishing second in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes (1m4f, soft) in October; continuing on an upward curve this year and wasn't seen to best effect when the beaten favourite in a steadily-run French Group 3 three weeks ago (1m4f, good); big shout, even with the extra weight.

Won a novice and three Ascot 1m4f handicaps on varied ground last June-September; pipped a below-form Hamish for second in Ascot Group 3 on final outing last year and resumed his progress when he reappeared with a close third in Newbury Group 3 (1m4f, good) in April; that puts him into very serious contention today.

It's been some fall from grace since he finished placed in two Derbys as a 3yo, with his only subsequent win coming over hurdles; very opposable.

Runner-up in the Derby in 2024 but nothing like the same force now; after a stint over hurdles he was comfortably beaten in a handicap at Royal Ascot last month; hard to fancy.

His second in the 2024 Derby is feeling pretty distant now and on latest outing he was second of four in a handicap hurdle at Fakenham; hooded throughout that hurdles campaign and sometimes on Flat, but that is now replaced by cheekpieces; this is also his first ever Flat handicap.

Form & Verdict
Placed in several Group 1s when trained by Clive Cox; returning from a year off when down the field in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot on stable debut and then ran perfectly well in a Group 3 at Goodwood, albeit one that was steadily run; unlikely he's as good as he was, but still makes plenty of appeal at this level; goes on all ground.

He was returning from a year off when down the field in the Wolferton at Royal Ascot in June, and may have needed that first run for Kevin Philippart De Foy; classy performer for Clive Cox prior to £2,000,000 sale, making the frame in several Group 1s, and can have a big say if back to his best.

Sold on the eve of this meeting last year for £2,000,000 and finished a creditable third to Rebel's Romance and Al Riffa in the Group 2 Hardwicke (1m4f, good to firm) a few days later; withdrawn after rearing over being saddled up on an intended start at last year's Newmarket July meeting; subsequently left Clive Cox and hasn't been seen since.

Just ahead of Warrant Holder in a York handicap last time when neither were at their best; lightly raced 4yo with two 1m2f handicap wins to his name this season and, when second on good to soft at Epsom, he beat all bar a Group horse; stays this far.

Lightly raced 4yo who made it two wins for the year when scoring easily at Chester (10.3f, good) in May then finished second of 16 at Epsom (1m2f, good to soft) on Oaks day, albeit no match for the highly progressive winner; yard has won three of the last seven runnings and he could be a contender.

Appeared to act on good to soft last term (unraced on soft); has gone from strength to strength this year, first on AW but most strikingly when returned to turf for a dominant, front-running display as 10-11 favourite in 11-runner race at Chester (1m2f, good); 9lb higher today but highly respected.

Form & Verdict
Smart 3yo, winning a 1m2f Listed race in the spring and even better in the autumn when placed at that same level and in Group company over 1m4f (soft); dictated steady fractions on his belated return (after being gelded) in a Group 3 at Haydock (1m2f, good), only to succumb to the seriously progressive Sallaal; fully entitled to step up on that run.

Showed he can go well fresh when winning 1m2f Listed event at Epsom last spring; mostly creditable efforts in defeat afterwards (subsequently gelded) but will probably need a career best to make a winning return after ten months off.

Won 1m2f Listed event at Epsom in April; put in his place on next four starts (three of them Group races) but close third in Listed contest at Saint-Cloud (1m4f, very soft) on latest outing was career-best form, racing wide of the others early on and making the running for first time since debut, still in a clear lead 1f out; needs to build on that but there's renewed hope.

A 6yo but with flashes of quality form in the last 12 months, notably in winning the Grade 1 Canadian International (1m4f, firm) and his second to Opera Ballo in a Meydan Group 1 in January (1m1f, good; handles softer); failed to fire in another Group 1 a month ago in Germany, though that was after a lengthy break and his draw was no help; could be dangerous at this level.

Formerly trained in France/Qatar; mixed results in three runs in Britain this season but he dominated a C&D handicap (good to firm) in May and was a respectable fifth of 18 at Glorious Goodwood last time; hasn't been far off his best in those two runs but this is much tougher in this Group 3 and he's bottom of the pack on the figures.

Lightly raced 4yo who further advanced his form when a clear second in the 1m4f Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot (good to firm); definite claims on that career best and just never gave his true running when favourite for the big 1m2f handicap at York last month; probably goes on good to soft, though unraced on slower.

Reappeared over C&D (good) in May in a first-time tongue-tie (retained since) having been gelded, and he won that big-field handicap from Thunder Run and Altareq to make it 3-6; fine effort in clear second in the Duke Of Edinburgh at Royal Ascot (1m4f, good to firm), where outstayed, and he's due to be 6lb higher in future handicaps; leading claims back down in trip.

Won in good style in a small field at Newcastle (1m4f, AW) last October in his second handicap; gelded and tongue tied when returning over 1m2f in 15-runner handicap at York (good; unraced on firmer) five weeks ago and he won that too, racing freely in mid-division before going on over 1f out to score by 1l; up 5lb and needs to settle better but clear potential still.

Both wins were on AW and she did well to finish third, in difficult circumstances, at Kempton (1m2f Listed, AW) on seasonal/stable debut; stiff task in Group 3 back on turf at Sandown since but she should still have done better than a remote last of five; fourth in this last year but off 7lb lower.

Has gained both wins on AW and she did well to finish third, in difficult circumstances, at Kempton (1m2f Listed) on reappearance; ties in with Devil's Advocate on that bare form but isn't guaranteed to find the required further improvement back on turf.

Verdict

A strong Listed contest with plenty of Group form on show. Ghostwriter has clear claims but he has rather lost the winning habit and doesn’t appear to be as good as he was, whereas TENABILITY (nap) has been progressing for a while now. The selection was a beaten favourite in France last time but the steady pace of that race was no good to him. If making the anticipated step up from his comeback run Sea Scout should be a factor.[Alistair Jones]
