Form & Verdict
Runner-up in two Irish points last winter and he's shown promise in his three hurdle runs including when keeping-on sixth in big-field maiden at Ffos Las (2m, soft) last month; should have more to offer now handicapping up in trip and he's an interesting contender.

Form & Verdict
Won a C&D novice (soft) last February but he's not gone on from that in handicaps and was laboured at Market Rasen (2m2f, good to soft) on Boxing Day; mark continues to fall but he's now 1-9 over hurdles and others are more convincing.

Made successful return to hurdles at Lingfield (2m7f, soft) a year ago and finished third over the same C&D in December after ten months off; held at Wetherby (3m1f, good to soft) since, but that was in a better race; respected with conditions likely to be ideal.

After two pull-ups over fences he won back hurdling at Lingfield 11 months ago (2m7f, soft; 5lb lower); wasn't far away there last month when giving the impression that race would bring him on; considered.

0-6 in France but was a creditable second in a 2m3f heavy-ground claimer in his final run there in November; now makes his British/handicap debut and he needs watching in the market on his first run for David Pipe; tongue-tie added.

Six chase wins, the latest here (1m7f, heavy) under Rian Corcoran 19 days ago; still on workable mark after recent 5lb rise and will be fine over today's longer trip but the faster ground is probably not in his favour.

Form & Verdict
Triple hurdle winner who defied this mark here (2m5f) last February but he's not been at his best in four runs this season; ran respectably when third in first-time blinkers at Huntingdon on Boxing Day but he needs to build on that; acts on most ground including heavy.

Form & Verdict
Shaped with promise at big prices in his first two hurdle runs (2m, soft) but he was struggling when he fell three out at Plumpton (2m4f, soft) last time; still early days in this sphere and now switches to a handicap but he has a bit to prove after that last run; stablemate of Legal Rights.

Fairly useful chaser who is 5-17 in that sphere, but he was a big price on Flat debut at Goodwood (1m6f maiden) two weeks ago and finished a well-held fourth of seven; that wasn't bad after a slow start but this is a daunting task in this Listed event and he has stacks to find on the figures.

Form & Verdict
His only win came over C&D in November 2019 but he rallied well to go close back at this track (2m3f, good to soft) on Boxing Day; nudged up 3lb but this return to heavy ground is no problem and another bold bid could be on the cards.

Verdict

Preference is for GEROLAMO CARDANO (nap), who is very well suited by a slog in the mud and cashed in on a tumbling mark with his emphatic win at Leicester 19 days ago. Kenny George battled well when going close over C&D last time and he’s feared most, ahead of the unexposed Jet Marshall, who looks interesting upped in trip on his handicap debut. The other one on the shortlist is the ex-French 5yo Royal Mer who needs watching in the market on his first run for David Pipe. [David Moon]
