Form & Verdict
Kept on gamely to fend off Patient Owner over C&D (heavy) at end of 2022, his fifth chase win, and has obvious claims if judged on that performance but we didn't see him again until a poor run in December.

Lengthy absences either side of his Uttoxeter win under Harriet Tucker in late 2022; pulled up in his two subsequent runs and hard to know what he'll make of a visor (replacing blinkers).

Form & Verdict
Came second over fences at Wetherby (3m, good; first-time cheekpieces) a year ago but the rest of last season's chasing form was unconvincing, and he reverted to hurdling for his reappearance win in the autumn; on a good mark and ought to handle today's ground but comes with some risk attached on his return to this discipline.

Form & Verdict
Very lightly raced 9yo who was in process of running well on stable/chase debut until jumping error at third-last fence seemed to knock the stuffing out of him over C&D (heavy; first-time cheekpieces) in December; that was his first start since early 2022 and he has a fighting chance today if that outing has done him good.

Unexposed 7yo who won a good-groud Irish point by 17l in 2022; safely held in three novice/maiden hurdles for Jennie Candlish (2m4f-2m6f) and still needs to prove he's effective on slow ground but sports first-time cheekpieces for today's chase/handicap debut and is open to improvement.

Form & Verdict
0-6 over hurdles but made pretty good start to chasing career when second on seasonal/stable debut at Market Rasen (3m, good to soft) on Boxing Day, and his Irish point win in 2022 suggests he'll be suited by today's slower ground; likely contender.

Form & Verdict
Placed off 9lb higher at Ffos Las (2m5f, good to soft) in October, after a break, and will be very well suited by the heavy ground here but her subsequent chase/hurdle form has been disappointing; wore cheekpieces two starts ago and a visor last time; blinkers given a whirl today.

Gained all three wins on heavy ground at Ffos Las (2m-2m6f); safely held in cheekpieces and then a visor on her last two hurdling starts (2m4f/2m); tries a new trip and sports first-time blinkers on this return to chasing; too well handicapped to rule out but needs to turn a corner.

Form & Verdict
Stuck to his task well when second to The Lion Dancer over C&D (heavy) at end of 2022 and is now 17lb below that mark but has looked badly out of sorts on all three appearances this season; visor removed after one use; big leap of faith required to support him at present.

Showed some fair form over fences last term, notably when second in a Uttoxeter handicap off 17lb higher in December 2022 (3m, heavy); pulled up on all three starts this season, the latest when having first run after a wind op when headgear was tried (didn't jump well); no headgear here but hard to fancy despite good mark.

Quite lightly raced for his age and ended last season with good third at Chepstow (3m2f, good to soft; slow ground also suits) but was a pulled-up 50-1 shot there on belated reappearance outing 11 days ago and could be considered only if much stronger in the betting here.

Verdict

Lucinda Russell’s ARTIC BREEZE was a very respectable second on his stable/chase debut on Boxing Day and, if his winning Irish point form is a guide, could have significant untapped potential on slow ground under rules. He gets the verdict ahead of Pebbly New Moon, who also made a promising stable/chase debut in December. Fortuitous Find is the least exposed runner and will enter the equation if strong in the betting.[Chris Wilson]
