Signs of a revival at Ascot in February and built on that when going close at Sandown (3m, good to soft) last month; he won on heavy ground over hurdles and he could be bang there once more.

Maintained unbeaten record at Catterick when winning four-runner race (3m1f, heavy) in February; beaten nearly 14l when third at Newbury (3m2f, heavy) last time but that was still a fair run; might not be far away.

Form & Verdict
Won at Uttoxeter (2m4f, heavy) in December on third chase start and improved again to score by 7l at Taunton (2m7f, good) in February; today's race is a tougher test of his credentials but this 8yo is progressive and may be able to take a 7lb rise in his stride.

Form & Verdict
Having dropped down the weights he returned to form when second off this mark at Taunton (3m4f, soft) last month, despite his jumping lacking fluency in first-time cheekpieces (left off today); he can't be ruled out but he's had a patchy campaign and needs to back up that latest performance.

Bounced back to form in first-time blinkers at Bangor (3m5f, soft) last month, winning North Wales National under Lucy Turner; it's hard to tell whether the new headgear will continue to have a positive effect, and the forecast quicker ground here is probably not ideal, but he's still 5lb lower than when second in this race a year ago.

Improved as the race went on when comfortably winning four-runner handicap at Fontwell (2m2f, heavy) last Thursday; tackles a better race and a much longer trip today but he was a good third over 3m1f at Ludlow (soft) in December and is not discounted under a 7lb penalty.

8l win in first-time blinkers (retained since) at Wincanton (3m1f, heavy) in February and again did it readily there (3m1f, heavy) last time; unraced here and all three wins have come at Wincanton, but he can also be effective elsewhere and he's a strong candidate if his fine form continues.

Ended last season in excellent form on heavy ground in blinkers, winning twice over 3m1f at Wincanton before drawing 6l clear over an extended 3m6f at Exeter; should have come on markedly since October reappearance and this is only his second run over a marathon trip; could have more to offer, though seemingly the deeper the ground the better it is for him.

Verdict

Topweight BALLYGRIFINCOTTAGE was a close second at Sandown last month and can go one better today. The improving 8yo Sure Touch is bidding for a hat-trick and is second choice ahead of No Hub No Hoobs, who has won in good style at Wincanton the last twice. Your Own Story is another interesting contender.[Ben Hutton]
