Has raced only on good/good to firm when on turf; 4yo who was having only the fifth start of his career when landing the 22-runner John Smith's Cup over C&D six weeks ago; an 8lb rise means a Group-class performance will be needed to follow up but no surprise were he to find it.

Fourth in the John Smith's Cup over C&D and Cambridgeshire over 1m1f at Newmarket (both good to firm) on joining this yard last year and opened the current campaign with a win back at Newmarket (1m1f, good to firm again) in May; another creditable effort when sixth of 28 in Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot since, despite leaving the impression even a stiff 1m was a little on the short side; had winning form on softer than good in Ireland much earlier in his career; likely to be on the premises.

Progressive this year, finishing strongly to win at Leopardstown (1m2f, yielding to soft) in April; good second back there three months later and an eye-catcher when sixth of 17 to Al Aali at Glorious Goodwood (1m2f, good) since, finishing strongly having been denied a clear run and still had plenty to do over 1f out; bold show on the cards.

Secured the latest of his three wins when taking Redcar handicap (1m, good) in May; couple of respectable efforts over 1m2f on turf since and he hasn't finished out of the first three in four AW starts (all here); another who can't be dismissed.

Form & Verdict
C&D winner on good in June but held off this mark in a Class 3 over 1m1f at Hamilton 11 days ago and this is even harder.

Bounced back from a lesser effort when narrowly beaten in a first-time tongue-tie at Redcar (1m, good) in June before winning at York (1m2f, good) next time; won't mind this drop back in trip and holds claims off this 4lb higher mark.

Appeared to be found wanting for stamina over C&D two runs back but that was a warm handicap and he's since gone down narrowly in a Class 3 over 1m at Redcar (good; new tongue-tie), where he wasn't stopping; races up with the pace and firmly in the reckoning.

Verdict

An ultra-competitive meeting finale. Erzindjan (second choice) has a fine record in good handicaps since joining Terry Kent and should go well with Ryan Moore retaining the ride but preference is for DIEGO EL QUESO, who left the impression he'd have been bang there in the Glorious Goodwood handicap won by Al Aali had he enjoyed more luck in running. Bourbon Blues competes off the same mark as when second in a 3yo only handicap over this trip at Goodwood and is also shortlisted, along with Castle Stuart who boasts a strong C&D record.
