Said goodbye to handicaps when winning over C&D in May 2025 and just two runs later he won the Group 1 King Charles III at Royal Ascot (good to firm; handles good to soft); off the track for nearly a year after and he's been slowly working his way back to form since, looking more his old self when winning a Group 2 at Glorious Goodwood latest; a likely force. |

Course legend has won 10 of his 12 races at this track and amassed 575,000GBP in prizemoney; has won twice at Listed level this season and second in a Group 2; however, wasn't himself when eased and well beaten last time; has run well in defeat in this race for the last two years but the trip stretches him and is vulnerable again. |

Course specialist made it ten wins here with a Listed race success over this trip in June; also won the Gladness Stakes over 7f here in March; second to subsequent Group 1 winner Comanche Brave in the Greenlands in May, with James Delight in third; holding his form admirably on the evidence of Group 2 second over 7f here three weeks ago. |

Prevailed at the Curragh in May to break his Group 2 duck; not disgraced in the 6f Group 1 at Royal Ascot since but that seventh-place finish confirms his slight limitations at the top level; will find better opportunities when back down in class. |

The drop back to 6f proved to be a good move this spring, with a very respectable fifth in a hot Group 1 at Sha Tin in April (good to firm; Satono Reve second) and a 2l win in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh (6f, good); not fully exposed at the trip and he's one to be interested in. |

Has won on soft and yielding ground but best on good or quicker; came from the clouds before meeting trouble in running in the King Charles III at Royal Ascot, so did well to finish about 3l behind the winner; again came from behind when leading near the line in a Group 2 at the Curragh since; in prime form but those tactics can be hard to pull off here. |

British raider was in fine form at Meydan at the turn of the year, winning a Listed (yielding) and a Group 2 (good), both over 5f; didn't get the smoothest of runs when beaten 3.5l in the King Charles III at Royal Ascot last time (behind Rosy Affair and Jakajaro) and could get closer here if getting a clear passage. |

5yo front-runner who has been better than ever this year, comfortably winning a handicap at York (5f, good) in May and posting a fine fifth of 26 at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm) last month; third in Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh (5f, good to firm) recently and he could build on those last two efforts, which were on stiff tracks, now on a downhill course; respected. |

Prominent racer started his campaign with back-to-back handicap wins at Newmarket (5f, good) and York (5f, good); yet to score at Pattern level but huge runs the last twice in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock (5f, good) and when a 1.5l fifth of 26 in the King Charles III (5f, gd-fm) at Royal Ascot; fourth in this last year and should be in the mix again. |

Handles most ground; best form when winning a Group 2 on good to soft at Glorious Goodwood in 2025 and although he hasn't nailed it in the same way this year, the recent rain could give him a toehold into this race; visored once as a 2yo, now goes in blinkers. |

Has taken time to get to grips with turf and was easily seen off when fourth in this last year; however, a gelding operation in the close season has worked wonders and he followed a Group 3 win with one in a Group 2 at Haydock (5f, good to soft), overcoming a slow start to win in some style; his star has dimmed somewhat at Royal Ascot and Goodwood since, but the return to a flat track offers hope that he can be on song again. |

Returned this year having been gelded and he's been an improved model, winning the Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket (5f, good to firm) and the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock (5f, good to soft) before leading home those who raced in the centre group when tenth of 26 overall at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm); usually front-runs and this speedy track should suit him better than Ascot (ran well in this last year); strong claims despite 3lb penalty. |

Finished a close third in the 2024 running and went on to win the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (5f, firm; has won on good to soft) later in the year; seen only twice in 2025 and it's been a slow process recapturing form but a recent close fourth to Redorange in a C&D Listed race (first-time visor, now discarded) in July was better; no surprise to see him go well at a price. |

Started the year with two Listed wins at 5f before charging up the stands' side to snatch the Group 1 King Charles III at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm) from under Rayevka's nose; not the same horse in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket after (6f; had good form at the trip as a 2yo) where he wouldn't have won at 5f and was eased down; has a question mark now but he's capable of putting his stamp on this race if on song. |

Verdict
The best chance of a home win is provided by the July Cup winner Comanche Brave, who has never tackled the minimum trip. In a field packed with British-trained speedsters, that is a negative despite the undeniable quality of his Newmarket display. The Nunthorpe may provide the key. TIME FOR SANDALS kept running into trouble and has a good chance of turning the tables on Starlust and Rumstar. Mission Central has a big chance on his Royal Ascot form, and Night Raider is also worth considering. [Alan Sweetman]Selections
