British raider; three handicap wins last season at 1m-1m2f on good and soft ground, including the Balmoral at Ascot (1m, good) on his final start of 2025 off 99; ran well when third in C&D handicap last September; a bit to find on the figures here and lacks a recent run but respected.

Ran well in defeat in Dubai on last two outings, off nearly six months since latest; successful at Doncaster (1m novice) and Newmarket (1m2f handicap) last summer on two most recent starts in Britain; ground softer than good would be an unknown, but he's lightly raced for his age and not ruled out with headgear fitted and a good-value claimer booked.

Improving at a rate of knots, winning 1m4f AW events at Southwell (novice; narrowly) and Kempton (handicap; convincingly) on his last two starts; a rise of 14lb for the last success looks justified and he may have more in the tank; showed some promise on turf on his first two outings and dropping back to 1m2f should not inconvenience him in the slightest; big player.

Verdict

The 3yos are of interest, with Kokbastau (second choice) improving in leaps and bounds on the AW, My Love Is King potentially let in lightly for his handicap debut and Gonna Fly retaining potential, especially if the ground eases. But another with solid credentials is STEM (nap), whose form on an easy surface last autumn is watertight and who was a thoroughly workmanlike winner over C&D two outings ago. Tribal Chief will be dangerous if everything finally clicks, while Alcarath has serious each-way hopes.[Richard O’Brien]
