Form & Verdict
Good efforts behind the top-class Blue Bolt on first two starts this season and posted a personal best when winning Group 3 at Ascot (1m, good to firm; unraced on softer) five weeks ago; reliable and tactically versatile; should go well again despite a 3lb penalty.

Missed the rest of the season after finishing seventh in the Coronation over C&D at 2025 Royal Ascot but has returned with two fine runs behind Blue Bolt, latterly when fourth of 15 in the Duke Of Cambridge over C&D (good to firm); the one likely to give Touleen most to do.

Lost her unbeaten record when only seventh of 11 in last year's Group 1 Coronation over C&D at the Royal meeting but otherwise her light career has been one of progress; reeled in late by Blue Bolt in a Goodwood Listed race (1m, good) last month and it's likely she's capable of better again; considered.

Form & Verdict
Lightly raced 5yo; chased home a wide-margin winner in Group 3 at Epsom (8.5f, good to soft) on Derby day; won't be inconvenienced if there's plenty of rain but has a fair bit to find on the figures.

Very lightly raced 5yo who left the impression 1m2f just stretched her when fourth in Nottingham Listed race on good-ground reappearance; raced only on soft/heavy prior to that, so won't be inconvenienced however much rain arrives.

Very lightly raced 5yo who has been kept to autumn races on soft/heavy ground; something to prove in this new scenario but otherwise an interesting type, having gained her 3yo success at Nottingham (1m) and being still open to further improvement; ran well in Listed contests the last twice and gives the impression she's ready for a crack at this new trip.

Both wins came in 1m handicaps in the second half of last year, including on soft ground; however, she finished last on her reappearance at Wolverhampton and now returns from five months off with a very stiff task.

Won Musselburgh handicap (1m1f, good) in April in good style but has come up short since, soundly beaten behind Blue Bolt in Group 2 at Ascot and fading when fifth to Calendar Girl in Listed race at Haydock on last two starts; needs a career best and seems to have plateaued.

Won Musselburgh handicap (1m1f, good) in good style in April but has since come up short in Listed race here and Group 2 at Ascot (1m, good to firm; last of 15); will need a career best but she's relatively low mileage.

She is on her third trainer but has won half of her eight starts, most recently when picking up a Musselburgh handicap (1m1f, good) on her comeback in April; showed she belongs at Listed level when beaten 2l at Haydock (10.5f, good to soft) last time but, while she continues to make strides, this is a different test altogether.

Beaten only once in five outings; crowned her 2yo campaign with a gutsy success in Group 3 at Newmarket (7f, good) and got this year off to the best possible start with a clearcut win in Listed race at Haydock (1m, good); handled good to soft ground well when winning valuable sales race at Doncaster last autumn; upwardly mobile filly with a big chance.

Beaten only once in four outings as a 2yo, crowning the campaign with a gutsy success in Group 3 at Newmarket (7f, good); should have no problem getting 1m; still has untapped potential and she's an interesting candidate if ready to roll after ten months off.

Smart 3yo who has run well behind top-class rivals in 1m Group 1 events this year, fourth to Precise in the Coronation Stakes and third to Blue Bolt in the Prix Rothschild; convincing winner on good to soft ground on debut last summer; now down in grade, she's the pick on form and the one to beat.

Runner-up to Precise in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood (7f, good to firm) last August and third in the Group 2 Rockfel at Newmarket (7f, good to firm) in September; she's better than she showed in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket (1m, good) last October, when well beaten behind Precise, but this is her first run since and she looks up against it.

Disappointing favourite in the May Hill but otherwise has a solid record; ties in with Precise on Goodwood running; creditable third in the Rockfel at Newmarket (7f) with cheekpieces fitted most recently; could go well in the retained headgear.

Progressive 2yo campaign culminated in fine second in Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf; back to near best when keeping on from out of the pack to chase home Calendar Girl in Listed race at Haydock (1m, good) three weeks ago; should be in the thick of things again for all-conquering yard.

Progressive 2yo campaign culminated in fine second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf; below par in Listed race at York (possibly needed run) and Group 3 at Epsom (ground possibly softer than ideal) this term; some questions to answer but she's a leading player if back to her best.

Has not looked like being beaten in any of her races so far, and she made it 3-3 in Listed event over C&D (made all) in July; that was on good to firm ground and she bolted up on soft the time before; still could be anything and she's well worth her place in her first Group 3.

Unbeaten in two starts, both over 7f (likely to be as effective at 1m); comfortably defied a penalty in Haydock novice event (soft) on seasonal debut; out of a Listed/Group 3 winner for her owner-breeder and brings potential to this rise in grade; adds interest.

11-2 when winning with something to spare on debut at Wolverhampton (7f, AW) last August; absent since but her dam was a 1m Listed/1m2f Group 3 winner and she could have lots more to offer for her top yard; leading claims under 7lb penalty.

Verdict

A well-contested and fascinating running of the Atalanta. Kon Tiki won at Group 3 level at Ascot last month but a 3lb penalty makes this a sterner assignment. The upwardly mobile 3yos Calendar Girl and Secret Of Life (second choice) can continue on the rise and should make their presence felt, but the most compelling claims are held by MOON TARGET who has been holding her own in Group 1 events and can capitalise on a drop in grade.[Richard O’Brien]
