Eighth foal; closely related to winners Willie Butler (bumper) and Mulcahys Hill (bumper/useful 2m4f hurdle/3m chase), half-brother to bumper/2m4f and 2m6f hurdle winner Penn Lane; dam French 1m7f claiming hurdle winner; this looks a tough enough starting point and he's probably best watched.

Yet to fire over fences but his best hurdle efforts would make him of interest off his reduced mark; better ground could help, as could blinkers, and he's one to watch in the market.

Soundly beaten in the autumn on his two chase starts but didn't run badly when fourth of six at Wincanton last time in a race that has worked out well; this lightly raced 7yo is on a handy mark on last season's best hurdle form and today's race may not take much winning; interesting.

Form & Verdict
Just the five runs for Venetia Williams since arriving from France and has had two wind operations; made a bold bid when runner-up in a good Bangor handicap (2m3f, soft) on his return in November and he was only narrowly denied by a Dan Skelton-trained improver when back in a novice at Leicester (1m7f, good to soft) last month; sets a fair standard on this step back up in trip and he won on heavy ground over fences in France; big player.

Well backed when runner-up in Ascot bumper (1m7f, good; 6-1) on his debut in November and he built on that when a promising third of 15 on his switch to hurdling at Doncaster (2m3f, good) last month; would have finished closer if he didn't makes some late mistakes in that race and he has plenty of scope for further progress; respected.

Well held at big prices in three novice hurdles but he rallied for a respectable third behind the two market leaders at Plumpton (2m, good to soft) three weeks ago; this is more realistic on handicap debut and this lightly raced gelding needs a close looks.

Verdict

Top of the list is GEORGES SAINT, who made a bold bid in a good 2m3f handicap on his return in November and was only narrowly denied by an improver back in a novice at Leicester last time. He sets a fair standard on this step back up in trip and was successful on heavy ground over fences in France. The danger is the very lightly raced Hermino AA, who showed plenty of promise with his third on his hurdling debut at Doncaster last month. The pick of the newcomers could be Intel Des Bruyeres, who is a half-brother to several jumps winners.[David Moon]
