Form & Verdict
Kilbeggan handicap chase winner (2m4f, good to yielding) in June off 5lb lower; has failed to take advantage of much lower hurdle marks in six subsequent starts; should appreciate a return to chasing and respected despite career-high mark.

Three-time chase winner is 2-24 over timber, including a win here on heavy over 2m4f; rated 22lb higher over fences but has been out of sorts since winning a handicap chase at Kilbeggan in June; first time cheekpieces and tongue tie combination needs to spark a revival.

Form & Verdict
Dour stayer over fences won this race in 2022 and was beaten roughly 5l into third in it last year from 7lb higher; has been woefully out of form for a while but three of his four career wins have come in the month of January; back down to last winning mark; top rider booked; first-time blinkers added to tongue-tie; respected.

Won 2m5f Thurles mares' beginners' chase in 2022 for Henry de Bromhead; only six runs since then, including fourth behind Kiltealy Park in this race last year, absent since pulled up behind several of these here in November; hard to fancy on return, especially given she's 6lb wrong here.

Relishes testing conditions and took advantage of them twice this season at Limerick when winning a 2m5f Limerick handicap hurdle and a 2m2f handicap chase; up 16lb compared to his win over timber at Punchestown when well beaten and found it similarly difficult off his revised chase mark at Gowran last time (2m4f, heavy); others more likely.

Came on from his return with a 66-1 third at Fairyhouse in January and posted a career best when beaten just half a length at Gowran last month; may have won that without a mistake at the last and a 3lb rise is fair.

Career-best when runner-up in handicap hurdle at Aintree when last seen just over a year ago; promise in one of his two chase starts back in 2022 and able to compete off 18lb lower chase mark on return here; stable among the winners and he will take some beating if he's fit.

3m winner over fences in Ireland and made a winning debut for this yard over hurdles in September (2m5f, good to soft); his subsequent defeats, all over 3m and divided between hurdles and fences, suggest his current mark is on the high side.

5/1

Verdict

With all of these either out of form or returning from a lengthy absence, it’s a tricky race to figure out. Prince Zaltar should run out a comfortable winner off this mark but he has to prove his fitness, while Optional Mix and Kings Halo can be expected to improve for a return to chasing. Darragh O’Keeffe is booked to ride STREET VALUE, who won this race in 2022. He comes with big risks attached but he’s back down to his last winning mark and has an exceptional record in January. Soloman Lane is also respected. [Adrian Wall]
