J: William Pyle

Enthusiastic front-runner who shone for Ruth Carr in 2025, winning five 6f handicaps (including a defeat of Jonny Concrete here on good to firm); creditable in-frame efforts on two of three starts this year without necessarily suggesting he's ready to strike again.

Form & Verdict
Not beaten far on AW at Kempton last time but previous turf run was a poor one; would benefit from plenty of rain (all three wins on soft).

All three wins on turf when trained by Kevin Ryan; beaten a head over C&D in February but below that level twice since; may do better back at this track.

Hasn't built on 5f success at Southwell in March, fading and hanging on this course three weeks ago; unproven at 6f; questions to answer.

Hasn't built on his success at Southwell (5f, AW) in March; not disgraced when sixth over C&D nine days ago but he'll need more if he's to return to winning ways.

Won off this mark in small field at Southwell (5f, AW) in March; ran pretty well on next two starts but down the field at Thirsk (5f, good to firm) latest and others are preferred in a hotter race than he's used to.

Form & Verdict
Just one win (5f AW at Newcastle) from 17 goes; not seen since respectable fourth over same C&D on New Year's Day; others have stronger claims.

0-13 but he retains plenty of the ability that saw him earn a mark of 80 after his first three starts; both C&D runs have been encouraging and he's high on the list.

Verdict

This is wide open. Last year’s winner Kats Bob should make another bold bid from the front, while Rousing Encore (second choice) is likely to be swooping fast and late. Territorial Knight’s 2025 form reads well and he’s much respected, along with Kodiac Thriller, Almarada Prince and El Bufalo, for whom the booking of Zac Lloyd is an interesting one. The well-handicapped Duran makes each-way appeal but at the top of the list is last season’s Ayr Bronze Cup winner WINGED MESSENGER who looks set for another productive campaign after a pleasing reappearance at Redcar.[Richard O’Brien]
