Won 6f AW Group 3 last September and fourth in Group 1 Middle Park at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) three weeks later; below best in Group races on both starts this year but wasn't devoid of promise at Newmarket, and Haydock last time was a first run on slow ground; not discounted on handicap debut.

AW Group 3 winner last September and bettered that form when 2.75l fourth to Wise Approach (Brussels second, Coppull third) in Group 1 Middle Park at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) later that month; late headway for seventh of 14 in 5f Group 3 back at Newmarket on reappearance; likely to benefit from the return to 6f but whether he's quite good enough remains to be seen.

All races at 6f, improving on front-running novice (good to firm) and AW Group 3 wins when beaten less than 3l in the Group 1 Middle Park on this course in September; from a yard that's much respected with sprinters but this still asks a lot on the drop to 5f.

Cost 270,000gns as a yearling; bred to go further but he didn't look short of speed when waving goodbye to the opposition at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) and the runner-up, who cost some 500,000gns as a yearling, didn't appear to be unfancied; the time wasn't mind-blowing but he looks hugely exciting, especially as connections expected him to come on plenty for that initial experience; James Doyle prefers him to Underwriter who runs in the same colours.

Won twice on AW last year but he took his form to a new level when fourth of 14 in a York sales race last October (7f, good); lumped up 11lb for that but showed there was no fluke about the performance by finishing second in a C&D handicap on his reappearance 16 days ago (behind Sovereign Spell); didn't look in love with the track on that occasion but he is on an upward path and remains unexposed as a sprinter; 4lb rise demands more though.

Won a big-field maiden on debut at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) last August; disappointing at Haydock (6f, good) in September but pulled hard; brings potential to this 3yo campaign and could prove to be ahead of the handicapper, provided he settles better.

Form & Verdict
Won Newmarket maiden (6f, good to firm) for Harry Charlton last August on fourth start and runner-up to Advertised at Newcastle (7f, AW) on subsequent nursery debut; well beaten here (7f, good to firm) last month on seasonal and stable debut and something to prove after that, but not written off.

Ended his 2yo campaign for Harry Charlton by winning a Newmarket maiden (6f) and running well in Newcastle handicap (7f, AW); sold for 90,000gns and gelded since; likely needs further progress on stable debut.

All starts at 6f on sound turf; big improvement second run and carried that over on next two starts, culminating with a win in Newmarket maiden (good to firm; Gouken third) in August; should have no problem with 7f and threatens to be very competitive on nursery/AW debut.

Form & Verdict
Three 2yo wins, including here, and ran well when third of 14 at Hamilton (6f, good) last month; however, was no match for winning stablemate Red Spells Danger and has since finished unplaced at Thirsk; others preferred.

A three-time juvenile winner (including 5f York nursery); better form in defeat this season, prominent for a long way when a very good third of 14 in 6f handicap at Hamilton two weeks ago; interesting reverting to 5f.

A dual C&D winner in an excellent 2025 campaign; got right back on track when fourth of 12 in 6f Chester handicap 11 days ago; must enter calculations off the same mark.

Form & Verdict
His two 2yo starts yielded a win at Ripon (5f, good to firm) and close second at Pontefract (6f, good to soft), and he returned with a respectable third on handicap debut at Musselburgh (5f, good); in a hot contest today and improvement is necessary, but that can't be ruled out.

Led late when making a winning debut at Ripon last August (5f, good to firm); beaten at odds-on at Pontefract (6f, good to soft) the following month but that form looks solid; gelded afterwards; brings clear potential to this handicap debut.

£32,000 yearling, 48,000euros 2yo breeze-up; 14-1 and green in the early stages but he came through late to make a winning debut at Ripon (5f, good to firm) three weeks ago; had to be switched out wide that day and the third was a ready winner next time; 6f promises to suit and he's much respected under a penalty, despite the widest stall.

Verdict

Handicap newcomer Thunder Call is a tempting option under crack Australian jockey Zac Lloyd but this could go to FIRST LEGION (nap), who has run well on all three previous visits to York and is edging down the weights. Red Spells Danger was seriously impressive at Hamilton and is third choice ahead of Advertised, who had an excuse at Newmarket last time. Postmodern is respected for his bang-in-form yard and good cases can be made for lots of the others, too, including Cape Ashizuri, Man Of Vision, Chicago Pope, Fortification and Alaminos.[Ben Hutton]
