Got off the mark at the sixth attempt in Leicester maiden (1m, good to firm) last month and followed up on handicap debut here (1m, good) a fortnight ago; there are mixed messages from his pedigree regarding the step up in trip and he could do with settling better than last time, but this progressive 3yo was strong at the finish and could take a 5lb penalty in his stride for a top trainer who has won this three times since 2011.

He's fully 7lb lower than when a close third at Sandown (1m2f, good to firm) last July but was soundly beaten on his final three outings last season and it's been the same story on his two starts this term.

Often held up in rear, so he saw very little daylight when 50-1 off career-low mark in the Spring Cup at Newbury in April; dropped another 2lb since but he last won in September 2023 and failed to make an impact in all but one of his races in 2025, so does not look the percentage call.

Form & Verdict
Unconvincing on the balance of his 2026 form but is a Goodwood specialist, having done most of his winning here, including off 4lb higher in this contest last year; met some traffic issues and somewhat eased once held here (7f) on Wednesday; ideally suited by ground softer than good.

Bit of a legend down the years and his six wins here include two at Glorious Goodwood, namely a heavy-ground edition of this in 2023 and when bagging valuable Golden Mile (soft) last term; now 6lb lower but there's a reason for that and he could do with a downpour, which isn't forecast; has a good stall and Oisin Murphy retakes the reins, however, while that course record means he can never be overlooked.

A superstar down the years and he's quite well treated again now but all his handicap wins at 7f and 1m have been on downhill tracks on good to soft or slower ground; better days ahead once the rains come.

Form & Verdict
First reserve; registered one of his 2025 wins at Goodwood, off current mark to boot; however, broadly out of sorts this term and needs to stage a revival; creditable fourth in this race in 2023 and 2024 but was in better form both times.

Has won over 1m but raced mainly at 7f; not solid on 2026 form and he came up short when a 50-1 shot in big field at York most recently; opposed in another competitive race, back up in trip.

Form & Verdict
Second reserve; has a record of 3-4 at Pontefract and 1-1 at Ascot; 0-16 elsewhere and his form since last success doesn't augur particularly well for this big assignment; failed to beat a rival when dropped back in grade latest start; first attempt at Goodwood.

Verdict

Traditionally a low-draw race but there have been outliers, namely two winners from high stalls, in recent years. Those complications aside, BLUE BROTHER is the suggestion as he's evidently thought capable of landing a big handicap, having been well supported at Royal Ascot in both British starts, and his reappearance effort may well prove a springboard to progress. Tribal Chief, who could find Jamie Spencer a match made in heaven, is second pick ahead of the Hannon 3yo Bunyola Bay. The improving contenders Indalo and Beagle Bay command great respect, as the early betting reflects, while Scoville is interesting and a couple of others hold solid claims.[Steve Boow]
