Form & Verdict
Duelled with Consent over 1m6f last year; progressive ways continued in May with a win at Newmarket (substandard 1m4f Group 2, good to firm) and close second in Group 1 at Longchamp (near 2m, soft); the Hardwicke back over 1m4f at Royal Ascot six weeks ago was a stiff task and she hung right in first-time cheekpieces on her way to a heavy defeat; much more interesting today with no headgear and back up in trip.

Versatile as regards ground; broadly progressive and versatile mare whose strike-rate is 7-13; last four performances (1m4f-1m7f) were two wins at Group 2 level and second-place finishes in Group 1 races, beaten only narrowly at Longchamp most recently; currently falls short of the standard set by the other female in this field but has a trajectory that bodes well; wears first-time headgear; adds interest.

Upped to 2m for a handicap win at York Ebor meeting (good to firm) last August; tried front-running to positive effect against her own sex over about 1m6f on her subsequent two starts when winning the Group 2 Park Hill at Doncaster (good to soft) and second in Group 1 at Longchamp (very soft); has a form chance on this return but the stayer's mantle will have to be shed.

Form & Verdict
Pipped by Santorini Star in Group 2 at Doncaster (14.5f, good to soft) in September but turned the tables on her in fine style in Group 1 at Longchamp (1m6f, soft) in October; cut out tamely in the final 2f of another French Group 1 (near 2m, soft) on return but ten weeks have passed; never having raced on firmer than good asks quite a question but tough to beat if back to her best.

Second on soft ground as 2yo; reappeared in July with a novice win at Newbury (1m2f, good) and suffered traffic problems at a crucial stage when running on into second in Group 3 at Deauville (1m4f, good to soft) last month, the winner having gone well beyond recall; better is needed but there's plenty of the stayer about her (if she settles) and she's one to note.

Ran in two 1m novice events as 2yo, winning at Thirsk (good) and close second at Haydock (soft); well related and this extra 2f will suit her well; has among the best form and is very much one to note.

Form & Verdict
Second to Waardah in this last year and fourth to Santorini Star and Consent in Group 2 at Doncaster (14.5f, good to soft) last September; routed her rivals in Listed event (1m2f, heavy) in November and reappeared with Group 3 win at York (1m6f, good; made most at 1-2) ten weeks ago; unraced on good to firm since 2024 (comfortably held); serious player if the ground is okay.

Danielle

T: John & Thady Gosden

Likeable 5yo who signed off for last year with a demolition job on 17 rivals in Listed event at Doncaster (1m2f, heavy) in November; possibly ideally suited by the mud but drying ground should not inconvenience her unduly and she has made the frame in two Group 2 races over 1m6f; the one to beat if giving her running after a winter break.

Best effort last season was over 1m4f on heavy ground in October and she's shown similar form in Group 2s over about 1m6f in her only two starts this term, keeping Waardah up to her work at Goodwood on first occasion; a fair bit extra will be needed from her if she's to win this.

5l third to Waardah in this last year, before career best when second in the Melbourne Cup (2m); back to best European form when second in Group 3 at Fairyhouse (1m6f, good; unraced on firmer) this month but will probably have to settle for a place here if others show their best.

Third runner for yard; dual-purpose performer, 6-12 on Flat, 1-7 over jumps; highly progressive last year, winning 1m6f and 2m Listed at the Curragh and Down Royal before Group 3 victory at Fairyhouse and third in the Group 2 Lillie Langtry at Goodwood in August; rounded off the year with an excellent runner-up in the Melbourne Cup; fitness has to be taken on trust but big player if she's ready.

Low-mileage 4yo who ran creditably to play supporting roles in two 1m4f Listed events this term; while 1m6f is well worth a go, it would be a revelation were she to finish prominently in this field.

Form & Verdict
Won twice here (soft/good to soft) last summer, latterly when leading over 2f out in this race and seeing off Danielle's challenge by three-quarters of a length; ran moderately on final 3yo start but reappearance this May was positive when second to a class act in Group 3 at Carlisle (1m3f, good to firm); big player if back to her peak.

Stablemate of Azaniya; seemed to relish the step up to 1m6f when winning the Group 2 Lillie Langtry at Goodwood (good to soft) last summer; didn't give her running in Group 1 at Ascot on final 3yo start, finishing well behind Estrange; may still have untapped potential but this trip looks a bare minimum.

Won 1m2f Listed race at Goodwood (soft) in June in grand fashion; handed an extra 4f when next seen in 1m6f Group 2 at Goodwood (officially good to soft, probably good) 11 weeks ago and she travelled best to lead 2f out before running on gamely to keep runner-up Danielle at bay; lightly raced 3yo who, if the ground is okay, can find further improvement to have a big shout.

Form & Verdict
Reappeared with 2l win in the Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester (11.3f, good); soundly beaten when favourite for the Oaks itself on testing ground at Epsom and put firmly in her place when fifth in Irish Oaks at the Curragh (1m4f, good to firm; 5-1); wore a hood and blinkers on first two starts this season, just cheekpieces on latest; some limitations have seemingly been exposed and others saw the race out better in her two Oaks bids.

Built upon previous promise (including on soft ground) when easily winning a maiden at Leopardstown (1m, yielding) last October on her fifth start, and reappeared with 2l win in Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester (11.3f, good) where she wore a hood and blinkers for the first time (retained today); she's followed the same route on her last two races as Minnie Hauk, who won this for Ballydoyle 12 months ago, and Ryan Moore rides; major player.

Verdict

Having been first and second in this race last year, WAARDAH and Danielle laid down positive markers first time out this season and look sure to go well again. It has to be said that they would have their work cut out if Consent is in the same form that won her the Group 1 Royallieu at Longchamp last October, and she looked a fine prospect that day, but Sir Mark Prescott's filly has never raced on good to firm ground and ran poorly on her only start this season. This race should be a much better fit for Santorini Star than her Royal Ascot assignment.[Richard Austen]
