Form & Verdict
Poetry in motion up the straight at Ascot where's she registered all three of her Group 1 wins, on a range of ground, crowned by the King George (1m4f, good to firm) last month; unraced here but also shone at Newbury on 2026 reappearance; as today's chief rival on ratings is Minnie Hauk, who finished well adrift of her in the King George, this mare is the one to beat.

She's won the last two runnings of the Group 1 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes here in October and she was a 1l second of five to Calandagan in this race last year; short-headed in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over C&D (good to firm) at the Royal meeting and she might not be far away.

Very smart mare who defied a penalty in Group 3 at Newbury (1m4f; beat West Wind Blows by a neck) on seasonal debut, taking record since wearing cheekpieces to 2-3 and running right up to her best; strong record at Ascot features wins in the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes for the last two years (soft/good) and an excellent second in the 2025 King George; avoids a Group 1 penalty in this race and has a major chance at the weights.

Form & Verdict
1m4f Group 1 wins last summer in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks before she was beaten a head in the Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp; creditable runner-up to top-class Ombudsman at Royal Ascot this June but disappointing either side of that and well adrift of Kalpana in the King George at Ascot last time; can go head to head with Kalpana if back to her best.

1m4f Group 1 wins last summer in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks before head second in the 1m4f Arc at Longchamp; back on song when runner-up in the Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes here (1m2f, good to firm) last month and, although she was beaten 4l and Ryan Moore rides stablemate Benvenuto Cellini today, she was behind the brilliant Ombudsman and could build on that latest effort now she's back up to 1m4f.

1m4f Group 1 wins last summer in the Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks (good to soft-good to firm) before taking on males in the Arc at Longchamp (1m4f, very soft) and finishing a clear second to Daryz, beaten just a head; reappeared with a Group 2 win at the Curragh (1m2f, good) and, while she has something to prove after a disappointing run there in the Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5f, good), she may well be in the mix if she's back to her best.

Form & Verdict
Progressive 3yo on varied ground last season who won a Listed race at Goodwood (1m4f, good) in May on her 2026 reappearance; it was a revelation, though, when she responded so well to sustained pressure to assert by four and a half lengths in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Newmarket (1m4f, good to firm) early last month; problem today is that the Group 1 Yorkshire version includes much more daunting opposition.

Progressive 3yo last season and she improved again to win a Listed race at Goodwood (1m4f, good) in May on her reappearance; this is tougher but the runner-up has franked that latest form and she could have more to offer for a trainer who excel with similar types; she's one to consider.

Largely progressive sort (1m2f winner) last season but she wasn't seen out after posting just a fair fifth of seven in 1m6f Newmarket handicap in August; this demands a clear personal best after eight months off the track.

Form & Verdict
Second on soft ground in her only 2yo race; vastly better form on good/good to firm this season, most notably when catching Johanna Walsh on the line in Group 2 Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot; the placings were reversed big time in the Irish Oaks (again 1m4f on good to firm) one month later, which wasn't her true running but she now needs to resume progress and in a major way.

Form & Verdict
Ran well on soft as 2yo, confined to good or good to firm this season; beat Earth Shot by a head in Listed race at Goodwood in May, which preceded fine Group 1 placed efforts in the 10.4f Prix de Diane at Chantilly and 1m4f Irish Oaks at the Curragh; saw out the 1m4f well but Johanna Walsh was 4l ahead.

Two 7f Newmarket wins and a fine second in France as a juvenile; fourth in the Nell Gwyn and failed to feature in the 1,000 Guineas; found her vocation when upped to 1m2f at Goodwood, getting the better of Earth Shot; enhanced her reputation with fine third behind Diamond Necklace in the Prix de Diane; Earth Shot may have her measure at this trip.

Campaigned only over 7f/1m but she's bred to be suited by this new trip; solid form as a 2yo then ran well in the Nell Gwyn on reappearance; came up short in the 1,000 Guineas since but brings a respectable rating to this drop back in class and there's still a chance she can do better still.

Form & Verdict
Third in a soft-ground maiden on reappearance; huge advances in her three starts since, notably when pipped by Earth Shot at Royal Ascot and 4l winner of Irish Oaks at the Curragh (both 1m4f on good to firm); the latter was in smooth style, as she skipped clear over 1f out before Inis Mor ran on into second, while Earth Shot disappointed in sixth; any further improvement would make her a serious rival for the older stars in this race.

Won at the third attempt, making all in a maiden at Leopardstown (1m2f, good) in May; took the sharp rise in class in her stride when going very close against Earth Shot in the Ribblesdale; further improvement on the cards; helps to give Joseph O'Brien a strong hand.

Off the mark at the third attempt when readily making all in a maiden at Leopardstown (1m2f, good) last month; others have achieved considerably more but she's on the up and her trainer is also responsible for impressive Oaks winner Thundering On; there can be optimism that this Sea The Stars filly will be suited by the step up in trip and she's well worth a second look.

Form & Verdict
Won the Group 3 Musidora here (10.2f, good) in May and a clear second in the Oaks at Epsom (1m4f, good to soft) in June, albeit no match for the winning stablemate of Johanna Walsh; favourite for the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot (good to firm) but already no answers when hampered over 1f out; she'd be far from the first to find that race coming too soon after the Oaks and could bounce back, but today's task requires a huge career best.

Built upon her abundant 2yo promise to win the Group 3 Musidora Stakes at York (10.2f, good) last month and she was a clear second in the Oaks at Epsom (1m4f, good to soft) 13 days ago, albeit no match for the winner; she had a hard race last time and there is a worry that this assignment may come too soon, but she sets a strong form standard for the rest to aim at.

All four starts on good to firm/good ground; rallied for fourth in a hot running of the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket last October on her final 2yo run, and she reappeared with a hard-fought win in the Group 3 Musidora at York (10.2f), asserting close home; there is every chance that she will stay 1m4f and her pedigree provides optimism that she will be effective on slow ground; dam is a sister to Frankel; firmly in calculations.

Form & Verdict
Unraced on worse than good to yielding; won first three races, notably a 1m4f Group 3 at Cork in June; had to be switched 2f out in Irish Oaks at the Curragh (1m4f, good to firm) next time, keeping fairly close tabs on Inis Mor thereafter as both came from well off the pace to be placed, but Johanna Walsh had gone well beyond recall; while that might have promised better still, she needs to leave this month's flop at Leopardstown way behind her.

2yo Group 3 winner on heavy who was 6l behind Legacy Link when third in the Oaks at Epsom (1m4f, good to soft) this June; tailed off when 20-1 in Irish Oaks (made most) last time, which was her first run both on good to firm and in cheekpieces; likely to have neither of those today but she is comfortably bottom of this pack on ratings; could have front-running duties.

Third in Group 2 May Hill at Doncaster (1m, good to soft) last September and readily made all in Group 3 Staffordstown Stud Stakes at the Curragh (1m, heavy) in October; she could improve for last month's comeback run in the Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester (11.3f, good) but has work to do with stablemate Amelia Earhart and A La Prochaine on that form; others preferred.

Verdict

While there have been admirable performances aplenty in this field, the other runners need to be at another level if KALPANA, Johanna Walsh and Minnie Hauk are on their game. The key factor in preferring them in that order is that last year's star Minnie Hauk ran poorly last month behind Kalpana in the King George. Kalpana was restating her class with that triumph, whereas Irish Oaks winner Johanna Walsh is the rapidly improving 3yo, but Kalpana sets a tough standard for the others to match in what could be a vintage renewal.[Richard Austen]
