Form & Verdict
Acts on most ground; has won three handicaps at Musselburgh this season and gained her first Listed success when scoring at Chester (7f, good) in June, but she was below that level at Pontefract (1m) last month; has a better draw than she did when down the field in this contest last year but is now 11lb higher than when last seen in handicap company.

Could hardly be coming into this in better form, winning four of her last five starts including another Listed event at Chester (7f, good) ten days ago; still favoured on these terms despite her 3lb penalty and although the stiffer mile is one small question mark, she is a major player nonetheless.

This 5yo is in the form of her life at present, gaining a third Musselburgh handicap win of the season when easily seeing off seven rivals 37 days ago; had a wide stall as a an excuse for a slightly below-par effort over the extended 7f here prior to that and she went close here last season; on the shortlist.

Form & Verdict
Acts on good/good to firm; landed this contest last year off a 14lb lower mark (good to firm) and she's improved again this season, winning a competitive handicap at Newmarket (7f, good) and then the Group 3 Chartwell Stakes (7f, good to firm); well held on her next two outings, including in a Royal Ascot handicap, but it was a solid effort in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes (7f, good to firm) three weeks ago; Conor Whiteley takes off 5lb and she can't be dismissed back into a handicap.

Always behind in the boiling cauldron of a Royal Ascot handicap last week; progressive otherwise and still has good stats, being 9-22 overall, 2-3 this term and 6-11 over 7f (1-1 over C&D); however, has to overcome a 3lb penalty for the Group 3 win achieved against her own sex in May.

Unraced on ground slower than good; can front-run; made a winning debut last year and went close in a Group 3 at Newmarket next time; sixth in the Nell Gwyn on her reappearance before finishing down the field in the 1,000 Guineas and fading into fifth in a French Group 2 (1m, good); now drops back to 7f after failing to settle over 1m in the Sandringham two months ago but stall 17 isn't ideal.

Went close in a Group 3 (7f, good) last season on only her second career start; no fireworks as yet this campaign when only sixth in the Nell Gwyn, nowhere in the 1,000 Guineas and a fading fifth from the front in a French Group 2 last time (1m, good); with limitations becoming exposed she's dropped into a handicap, but others are surely more progressive.

Cotai Belle

9st 10lb

J: Ethan Tindall

T: Richard & Peter Fahey

Won twice as a 2yo and she has run well for second in a couple of stronger fillies' handicaps (6f, good) on her last two starts; Ethan Tindall's claim helps matters and she is high on the shortlist.

Form & Verdict
Unproven on ground slower than good to soft; five-time winner (5f/6f), the most recent coming at Musselburgh in April off a 10lb lower mark than today's; has bumped into one in each of her last five starts, including when ahead of a few of today's rivals at Goodwood (6f, good) two starts back, but now tries 7f for the first time off a career-high mark.

Four wins, including over C&D last season; won off 4lb lower over C&D again in April (good) but has finished second five times since, last week going down by a neck in a 6f fillies' handicap at Goodwood (good); 5lb well in; interesting contender.

Five-time winner having a consistent season but her handicap mark hasn't really gone anywhere despite several placed efforts over 5f in lower-grade races than this; has won over this far but the chances are she'll come up short once again.

Form & Verdict
0-4 as a 2yo but she's shown improved form since returning from a 207-day break, making all at Lingfield (6f, AW) before following up at Thirsk on her turf debut (6f, good to firm) last time; leaves the impression she has more to offer but now steps back up in trip in a deeper race off this 8lb higher mark.

Unexposed 3yo who returned after 207 days off with a dominant display in a Lingfield handicap (6f, AW) last Monday; 3lb well in under a penalty for that success and she's open to more progress on this switch to turf; strong contender.

Showed similar level of fair form on all four 2yo starts, most recently when fourth on nursery debut at Chelmsford (7f) in December; might have more to offer back at 6f this year but has fitness to prove after seven-month break.

Verdict

Last year's winner Royal Velvet has the help of Conor Whiteley taking off 5lb and would be of interest if the ground is good or quicker, while slower ground would be a benefit to Caim on her handicap debut as she won on soft going on her debut. Albaydaa (second choice) should still be capable of better but the well-related STARLIGHT LASS is preferred. She's looked a good prospect when winning two small-field novice events over 1m and the turn of foot she's shown bodes well for this drop back in trip on her handicap debut. Cases can be made for plenty of others in this competitive contest, including Tryst, Carnival Of Light, Machadadorp and Cotai Belle. [Harry March]
