25th Apr 2026 Good 3m 4f 146y Class 1 |
10st 5lb |
Failed to fire in the Eider at Newcastle on penultimate start; commendable otherwise this season, making all in the Southern National at Fontwell (3m3f, good to soft), fourth in Welsh Grand National at Chepstow (3m7f, good to soft) and short-headed at Exeter (3m7f, good) five weeks ago; raised another 2lb but has place claims. |

Made all in Southern National at Fontwell (3m3f, good to soft) on seasonal debut in November and was commendable fourth in Welsh Grand National at Chepstow (3m6f, good to soft) just after Christmas; didn't fire in last month's Eider at Newcastle but still features prominently in calculations; placed the only time he raced on good ground. |

Made all under Callum Pritchard in the Southern National at Fontwell (extended 3m3f, good to soft) on reappearance in November, clear from four out and holding on by a neck from a strong finisher; came from mid-division when creditable fourth in the Welsh National at Chepstow (extended 3m6f) and having a crack at 4m+ now makes appeal; one to consider. |

Four wins in five races in points, the defeat inflicted by Hunters Yarn at Moig South last autumn; that rival seemed to be getting the upper hand when they both fell three out in the Fairyhouse race won by Five Star Getaway; useful second-string for champion-elect points trainer. |

Wide-margin point winner in 2023; useful hurdler for Paul Nicholls, sold cheaply after two failures over fences; beaten 8l by Hunters Yarn at Moig South on return to pointing; reversed form with the winner at Dromahane and won readily at Carrigarostig in January; intended runner at Cheltenham until withdrawn because of concerns about the ground; valuable 7lb off. |

Lurks on dangerous mark and is very well suited by slow ground but did not achieve a great deal when remote second in four-runner race at Hereford (2m5f, soft) last month and has not run to form since December 2024. |

Pulled up over fences on two of his last three starts, jumping poorly most recently; however, in between he was a good second in a chase at Ffos Las (2m5f, heavy) and he's been effective at 3m and over hurdles in the past; no surprise to see a big performance now back over hurdles. |

Returned to form with hurdle win at Uttoxeter (2m7f, good) last month and is now 2-8 in that sphere; set a daunting task on this chasing debut but has some pointing experience to call upon and is evidently in good nick. |

Front-running 10yo who has to defy the stats as only two veterans have landed this prize since its inception in 1981; however, has low mileage for her age and remains unbeaten over fences; bagged Listed honours, against her own sex, at Newbury/Exeter the last twice and is a rising force for Polly Gundry; gets the 7lb sex allowance and shouldn't be passed over lightly. |

Took his form to a new level after being switched to fences following wind surgery, winning his first two races (3m, heavy) before pulling up at Newbury two weeks ago after a bad mistake five out; out-and-out stayer who could resume progress with conditions ideal. |

2-2 since sent chasing after a wind operation and he was well on top late on at Uttoxeter and Ffos Las (both 3m on heavy); 7lb higher than last time but firmly on the upgrade. |

Made all in three-runner contest at Ascot (3m, good) in March and arguably bettered that form when close/clear second at Haydock (3m1f, good to soft) last month; might be a shade vulnerable off new mark but at least we know he's in excellent nick. |

Did well in the autumn and won again last month at Ascot (3m, good) where he dominated his two rivals from the front; there's a suspicion that his two rivals underperformed and he's 5lb higher here, but still considered. |

Won at Ludlow (3m) in October and creditable fourth off this mark at Chepstow (3m2f, again good to firm) four days later, both under Callum Pritchard; recent Taunton run ended in an unseat before push came to shove but he's a big player judged on that autumn form. |

Signed off for Christian Williams with win in three-runner novice hurdle in spring 2023; unseated rider at second fence when reappearing for new stable in recent handicap chase and remains a tricky horse to weigh up, but it won't be a surprise if he plays a significant role here; unraced on ground slower than good to soft. |

Finished lame when beating one other finisher in a 2m5f Fontwell maiden hurdle in May 2023 (good); achieved more when second in his previous race, a 2m7f maiden at Chepstow (good to soft); same owners but in a new yard and interesting chase/handicap debutant despite the long absence. |

Verdict
Not much went to plan for BROOMFIELD PRESENT after last November’s very promising chase debut and he’s been absent for nearly a year but he resumes on a good mark and might be worth chancing. Hurricane Highway also had some mishaps during his first season over fences but he was arguably unlucky not to win this race off a 3lb higher mark and is second choice today. Livin On Luco made a winning chase debut in October and should also feature.[Chris Wilson]
