Form & Verdict
Dual hurdle winner who made good start to chasing career when third at Exeter (3m, good to soft) last November; two non-completions followed before the end of last year and we haven't seen him again since but he still has plenty of time to get his career back on track; had wind op in September; tongue-tie fitted.

Won over hurdles here (2m3f, soft) last winter and was also successful on seasonal/chase/handicap debut at Newton Abbot (2m5f heavy) in October; still unexposed over this sort of trip and has plenty of scope for progress; respected.

Made all under Callum Pritchard in the Southern National at Fontwell (extended 3m3f, good to soft) on reappearance in November, clear from four out and holding on by a neck from a strong finisher; came from mid-division when creditable fourth in the Welsh National at Chepstow (extended 3m6f) and having a crack at 4m+ now makes appeal; one to consider.

Finished well to snatch victory over hurdles at Exeter (2m7f good to soft) in January, his second handicap; not seen again since but his easy Irish point win in 2022 bodes well for his chasing prospects; had wind op in June; must be considered.

Four wins in five races in points, the defeat inflicted by Hunters Yarn at Moig South last autumn; that rival seemed to be getting the upper hand when they both fell three out in the Fairyhouse race won by Five Star Getaway; useful second-string for champion-elect points trainer.

Wide-margin point winner in 2023; useful hurdler for Paul Nicholls, sold cheaply after two failures over fences; beaten 8l by Hunters Yarn at Moig South on return to pointing; reversed form with the winner at Dromahane and won readily at Carrigarostig in January; intended runner at Cheltenham until withdrawn because of concerns about the ground; valuable 7lb off.

Had some jumping issues and was 0-4 over fences last season but did very well to finish third in this race, having sprawled on landing and lost significant ground at the fourth-last fence; resumes on a 3lb lower mark; could be very dangerous if he avoids errors today.

Front-running 10yo who has to defy the stats as only two veterans have landed this prize since its inception in 1981; however, has low mileage for her age and remains unbeaten over fences; bagged Listed honours, against her own sex, at Newbury/Exeter the last twice and is a rising force for Polly Gundry; gets the 7lb sex allowance and shouldn't be passed over lightly.

Looked promising when making all on hurdle debut at Ffos Las (2m4f, soft) last November but struggled on only subsequent start last season and was pulled up when reappearing in a handicap in October; not written off just yet but it takes a leap of faith to support him on chasing debut.

Won at Ludlow (3m) in October and creditable fourth off this mark at Chepstow (3m2f, again good to firm) four days later, both under Callum Pritchard; recent Taunton run ended in an unseat before push came to shove but he's a big player judged on that autumn form.

Finished lame when beating one other finisher in a 2m5f Fontwell maiden hurdle in May 2023 (good); achieved more when second in his previous race, a 2m7f maiden at Chepstow (good to soft); same owners but in a new yard and interesting chase/handicap debutant despite the long absence.

Verdict

Not much went to plan for BROOMFIELD PRESENT after last November’s very promising chase debut and he’s been absent for nearly a year but he resumes on a good mark and might be worth chancing. Hurricane Highway also had some mishaps during his first season over fences but he was arguably unlucky not to win this race off a 3lb higher mark and is second choice today. Livin On Luco made a winning chase debut in October and should also feature.[Chris Wilson]
