Has a lofty mark to defy but he's earned it, having won the Ultima at Cheltenham (3m1f, heavy) in March and a competitive handicap at Ascot (3m, good) last month; now 4-6 in chases and this prominent racer could be seen to excellent effect over these fences; key player for bang-in-form yard.

Pulled up on reappearance in October but he may have needed the run and has wind surgery since; after wins over 2m6f/3m he completed a hat-trick when staying on well to win the Topham over these fences in April (2m5f, soft) and he could have a part to play if he's back on song.

Verdict

The step back up in trip could be ideal for GABORIOT (nap), who won a 4m hunter chase at Cheltenham in May and stayed on for a good third behind King Turgeon in the Grand Sefton over 2m5f here last month. King Turgeon should be fine at today’s distance and is feared most ahead of Cruz Control, who could have more to offer over staying trips. Class act Chianti Classico could play a leading role off top weight, while Topham winner Arizona Cardinal is another to be interested in.[Ben Hutton]
