A 9yo won it in 2019 but it's stretching the imagination to see this 11yo prevail, even though he did so at Uttoxeter (2m4f, good) in October and soft ground was a valid excuse at Newbury (2m4f) in November; off since.

Has an impressive strike-rate over hurdles and his win at Kempton (2m5f, good) four weeks ago was his ninth in all; will not be inconvenienced by slower ground, but he'll need another personal best to follow up off 6lb higher and Sean Bowen jumps ship to ride stablemate Tamar Bridge.

Useful hurdler in his prime but out of form for a good while now, including on this month's two runs (latest a rare Flat run) for new stable; it's therefore hard to see him adding to the trainer's recent winners; Divilabother looks a much better chance for the yard but Harry Reed (who rides most of their British runners) is on this one.

Hasn't really taken to fences this season and he was comfortably held by the only other finisher here last month; however, this switch back to hurdles looks a positive move and he was certainly going places when notching back-to-back wins (2m3f, soft) early this year; impossible to discount.

Verdict

Irish raider The Nagger Reidy is unexposed and much feared after going down narrowly in a big field at Tipperary last month, but marginal preference is for the 2021 winner TAMAR BRIDGE who showed he retains plenty of ability when second after a long layoff at Uttoxeter. In a warm race, cases can be made for quite a few others, including the revitalised Getalead and the upwardly mobile trio Choccabloc, The Lord Maid and Country Park.[Richard O’Brien]
