Form & Verdict
Registered Group 1 wins at Longchamp last October (2m4f Cadran, very soft) and this May (near 2m, soft) and every bit as good when short-headed at Ascot (good to firm) earlier in May; 7-1 for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot (2m4f, good to firm) nine weeks ago and raced in second for a long way before cracking in the final 2f (vet reported signs of heat stress); concedes 3lb all round today but tried to go head-to-head with the best stayers around last time and they are now absent; good chance if back to form.

Huge improver last term, including second in the 1m6f handicap at this meeting and winning two Group events in the autumn, notably the Group 1 Cadran at Longchamp (2m4f, very soft); every bit as good this season, as he gave Sweet William 2lb when short-headed here (2m, good to firm) and followed that with a narrow Group 1 win at Longchamp; today's company demands a bit more but the thorough test of stamina will suit and he's one to take seriously.

Much improved last year, best effort to land the Group 1 Cadran at Longchamp (2m4f, soft) in October; close second in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan (2m, good) was a fine start to this campaign and his run on good to firm at Royal Ascot last June, although subsequently eclipsed, looked excellent at the time; needs respect but concedes weight all round.

Form & Verdict
No ground worries; pretty reliable and got back on the scoresheet at Meydan (1m6f Group 3) in February, with a creditable second here in the Yorkshire Cup in May; 22l seventh in Gold Cup at Royal Ascot (2m4f; 125-1) nine weeks ago when, unlike Caballo De Mar, he never figured; second (short-headed) and third in the last two editions of this race and has a place chance again.

While his form since has not quite reached the heights of 2024, he's still been pretty reliable and got back on the scoresheet at Meydan (1m6f Group 3) in February; however, he twice found Trawlerman far too strong for him in Britain last season and couldn't match Rahiebb late on in last month's Yorkshire Cup; unraced beyond 2m but it's hard to envisage the new trip working sufficiently in his favour.

While form since has not quite reached the heights of 2024, he's still been pretty reliable and got back on the scoresheet at Meydan (1m6f Group 3) in February; third in a 2m Group 2 there in March when last seen; wore cheekpieces on last four starts; should be thereabouts.

Form & Verdict
Tremendous progress last season; odds-on flop when rather forced to make the running in the Yorkshire Cup here on 2026 return; ran on nicely for a creditable sixth of 12 in a very strong Hardwicke at Royal Ascot (1m4f) next time but unseated leaving the stalls with a mishap in the Goodwood Cup (2m; 17-2); that leaves his stamina unproven but he stays at least 1m6f; unraced on softer than good to yielding; a leading contender if he gets this new trip and there's fair chance he will.

Two wins here in May initiated his tremendous progress last season; flopped at odds-on when he was rather forced to make the running in Yorkshire Cup on 2026 reappearance, but he ran on nicely for a creditable sixth of 12 in a very strong Hardwicke at Royal Ascot (1m4f) next time; stays 1m6f and has each-way claims if he gets this new trip.

Unraced on ground slower than good to yielding; disappointing favourite in the Yorkshire Cup on reappearance but that's his only blip in an otherwise progressive career; justified favouritism in the King Edward VII Stakes over C&D at this meeting (good to firm) 12 months ago, taking record at that time to 5-5, then ran well in the Irish St Leger and Breeders' Cup Turf; possibilities, provided his upward trajectory is resumed.

Probably acts on any going; good second in the 1m4f Great Voltigeur at this meeting last year; stepped up to 2m and switched from blinkers to a visor when well on top in a Listed race at Down Royal this May, before he found the 2m4f and far more demanding company too much for him in the Gold Gold at Royal Ascot (25-1; fourth 2f out); should have strong each-way claims today.

Won last May/June in his first three races, notably the 1m6f Queen's Vase at this meeting (good to firm) where he seized the initiative entering the straight and finished with three of today's rivals snapping at his heels; Scandinavia and Rahiebb comfortably turned the tables on him in the St Leger at Doncaster in September, however; latest start may have bolstered hopes, as he stepped up to 2m and switched from blinkers to a visor when well on top in a Listed race, but that was in far less demanding company.

Won his first three races around this time last year, notably 1m6f Group 2 Queen's Vase; better again in defeat when second in 1m4f Great Voltigeur and fifth to Scandinavia in St Leger; not quite at same level on last month's seasonal return behind same rival in Navan Listed; visor now replaces blinkers.

Probably acts on soft; 1m7f Group 3 winner in France in 2024 and third in a 1m4f German Group 1 last year; sold for 400,000euros last November and got off the mark over hurdles (second attempt) in a maiden at Galway three weeks ago, but his only run on the Flat for this yard was a poor one in the 2m5f Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot (11-1); others look more solid.

Unraced on softer than good except when well beaten on debut; smart performer on his day, beaten a neck by Illinois in the 2m5f Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot two starts back; far from disgraced when 33-1 fourth in the 2m Goodwood Cup last time and the return of blinkers (replacing recent cheekpieces) might add a bit of zip, but he's probably a place proposition at best.

Smart performer on his day, as when a 1m6f handicap winner at 2025 Royal Ascot and again on two of three starts this season; beaten a neck by Illinois in 2m5f Queen Alexandra back at Royal Ascot on latest; however, he managed only fifth in this race last year and this renewal also looks tough.

First-time blinkers when he was a very taking winner of last year's Copper Horse Stakes (1m6f, good to firm) at this meeting in which he came from well behind to win going away; gelded and, in no headgear, returned to that level of form when third in Group 2 at Newmarket (1m4f) on reappearance, only to then finish last of the five in new cheekpieces (retained) in the Group 3 Aston Park at Newbury; however, the first two home at Newbury were Group 1 horses, and on reflection it wasn't that bad a run; the burning question is whether he'll stay.

Form & Verdict
The supremely reliable performer (acted on any going) of 2024 and most of 2025 has gone and most of his performances since have been pretty grim in comparison; this season's clear exception was when he made class tell with his sights lowered in the 2m5f Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot, winning by a neck from French Master; the Goodwood Cup took him well out of his comfort zone again last time and he carried his head awkwardly, but the less demanding company today offers a bit of hope.

7l second to Trawlerman in 2025 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and beaten three-quarters of a length by Scandinavia in this; those performances were near his best but most since have been pretty grim; this season's clear exception was when he made class tell with sights lowered in the 2m5f Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot, winning by a neck from French Master, but latest start showed again that today's task is likely to take him well out of his comfort zone.

Close Listed third here (1m6f, good) on penultimate start and got up close home in a slowly run Group 3 over that same C&D (good to firm) on latest; he's never ventured beyond that and it's questionable whether it will suit; also needs a bit more improvement but he's regularly proved capable of that.

Has won on almost any going; front-runner at his best and he's a fine sight when in full flow, including with a win in this race in 2022; well beaten in it, however, in 2023 and 2024; in fact something was missing in all his first three races in 2024 and although he ended that campaign winning a minor race that September, he's not been seen since; it would be some feat if he could return with a win.

Verdict

The picture would have been a lot clearer if Amiloc had been able to put his stamina to the test in the Goodwood Cup, rather than having his jockey part company with him leaving the stalls. He has a good chance on his best form but is also unraced on ground worse than good to yielding, so, with plenty of rain forecast yesterday, that may be one risk too many. If the seemingly moody Illinois is discounted, there is not that much between the others but the most solid options under the likely conditions are CABALLO DE MAR and Carmers, if they have recovered from their Gold Cup exertions.[Richard Austen]
