Made a big splash in a few good 1m4f handicaps last two seasons, including on soft; tidy win last term at the York Ebor meeting; sold out of John Butler's for 150,000gns 11 days prior to a muted show in the November Handicap at Doncaster; even on best form, he has a lot to prove at this level.

Flourished when upped to 1m4f for last two starts last season, justifying favouritism in this race (soft; unraced on heavy) in clearcut style; resumed his improvement with a tidy win at York Ebor meeting (good) before put in his place when 33-1 in an Ascot Group 3; sold out of John Butler's for 150,000gns 11 days ago; still looked capable of better in that York win, so not dismissed despite 5lb higher mark.

Smart on the Flat at his best but signed off for Karl Burke with two disappointing runs in the autumn and was rather hesitant at some of the flights when disappointing favourite on last month's stable/hurdle debut; subsequently tailed off in major Flat handicap; may yet get his act together over hurdles but he is very tricky to weigh up at the moment.

Won sole start here, a 2022 maiden; smart at 1m3f-1m6f for Roger Varian and Karl Burke but reappearance was easily the best of three runs last year and, after a 21,000gns sale in November, well beaten at 11-10 for hurdles/yard debut two weeks ago; that's not the most promising stepping stone to this.

Really smart Flat campaigner although he was susceptible to the odd aberration; in fine form as recently as last April, when just denied in valuable 1m6f Musselburgh handicap, but last two starts for Karl Burke showed the other side of his coin and left that yard for 21,000gns in November; still rates a fascinating hurdles debutant with the market potentially offering significant clues.

Sole success for this yard came in Ballinrobe maiden hurdle in 2024; fine effort at big odds over C&D after long layoff in January when fourth to Voice Of Reason but unable to back that up in two subsequent starts; new headgear.

Verdict

This looks a good opportunity for FARHAN (nap) to add to his big-race wins in the November Handicap over C&D last season and at the York Ebor meeting last month. The manner of that latest success suggests that he is still going places. Contact is next on the list, on the strength of his admirable campaign this year, but Pride Of Priory might be capable of showing that his latest run did not reflect what he’s capable of. Aimeric, in just his second handicap, looks the most interesting option among the rest.[Richard Austen]
