Hereford winner over fences (2m5f, good to soft) in 2024 who was also second over hurdles at Plumpton (3m1f, good) that year; missed 2025 and fell on his stable debut in February but there were signs he retained ability despite finishing last of five here (about 2m5f, soft) last month; possibilities in a thin event. |

Chase winner for Pat Murphy; was entitled to have needed his recent stable debut after almost two years off but was weakening out of it at Plumpton, behind Junior Des Mottes, when coming down at the second last. |

2m5f chase winner and has the better form in that discipline, but he's not yet fully exposed over hurdles and his 7l second over C&D in May 2024 was a fair effort on final start for Pat Murphy; makes stable debut returning from a long absence and probably best watched. |

Lightly raced 7yo who was returning from a long absence when second on his handicap debut at Hereford a few months ago; has since been taken out on account of soft ground, so the better spell of weather won't have hurt; considered off the same mark. |

Unexposed 5yo who displayed clear promise in three 2m novice hurdles last season (good to soft/soft), notably here in December behind a smart one; that was on soft ground and yet he's bypassed two recent handicaps on account of the ground being too slow; his form claims are up there at this level. |

Second in his only bumper and third in two maiden hurdles; favourite for handicap debut in eight-runner race here (2m4f, good to soft) on latest outing but was floundering before the home straight and finished more than 20l behind the first two; needs much better than that and cheekpieces go on for yard among the winners. |

Has had three wins over hurdles but yet to convince on his suitability for this distance, latest when seventh of eight finishers at Haydock (2m5f, good) last month in first-time cheekpieces (retained). |

All five wins have been at about 2m or 2m1f; wasn't that strong through the line over Bangor's extended 2m3f last time (good) and has further to go here; tries cheekpieces. |

Hasn't fired as he can this season but he's well handicapped on form that wasn't that long ago; back from a break and hasn't had many chances over this sort of trip. |

Made a good start over fences for new connections, winning at Carlisle (2m, good) in October and second in a Grade 2 novice at Ascot (2m3f, soft); mistakes crept in when below that level twice since and he now reverts to hurdling; sixth of 17 in this last year off an identical mark. |

Made a good start over fences for new connections, winning at Carlisle (2m, good) in October and finishing second in a Grade 2 novice at Ascot (2m3f, soft); let down by his jumping in competitive handicap at Cheltenham last time but he's in shallower waters here and should be thereabouts. |

Record of 122 switched to fences this term for new yard and the form has received a few boosts; ran well on the figures, albeit no match for winner, in Grade 2 at Ascot (2m3f, soft) most recently; brings solid claims back to handicap level. |

Lightly raced 4yo whose best form for the Hobbs and White yard was probably her remote second of four over hurdles at Hereford (2m, good) in February; backward steps afterwards; makes debut under Flat rules and is Flat bred. |

Very lightly raced 4yo but her best effort was a remote second of four at Hereford (2m, good) in February; now goes handicapping at this new trip but she's 8lb out of the weights and has plenty of work to do. |

Didn't achieve a lot when a remote second at Hereford (four ran) and she was on the retreat when falling at Huntingdon; needs to improve, even in this modest contest. |

Verdict
With the Twiston-Davies bumper squad in good nick, Norman Fletcher and Push The Button need close attention, but the vote goes to CHEVINGTON whose dam was an above-average hurdler and whose stable has a decent record in this sphere. It’s hard to know quite how Scratch Card shaped in the fog at Wincanton last week but at least he now has race-fitness on his side.[Richard O’Brien]
