Hereford winner over fences (2m5f, good to soft) in 2024 who was also second over hurdles at Plumpton (3m1f, good) that year; missed 2025 and fell on his stable debut in February but there were signs he retained ability despite finishing last of five here (about 2m5f, soft) last month; possibilities in a thin event.

Unexposed 5yo who displayed clear promise in three 2m novice hurdles last season (good to soft/soft), notably here in December behind a smart one; that was on soft ground and yet he's bypassed two recent handicaps on account of the ground being too slow; his form claims are up there at this level.

Verdict

With the Twiston-Davies bumper squad in good nick, Norman Fletcher and Push The Button need close attention, but the vote goes to CHEVINGTON whose dam was an above-average hurdler and whose stable has a decent record in this sphere. It’s hard to know quite how Scratch Card shaped in the fog at Wincanton last week but at least he now has race-fitness on his side.[Richard O’Brien]
